Software Engineer, Network Routing

At Meta, we're building and operating one of the world's most dynamic and fast-paced networks, powering our global data centers and supporting cutting-edge technologies like AI, Generative AI, Recommendation engines, and Metaverse. Our network infrastructure teams are responsible for developing, deploying, and operating this complex system, covering the entire network lifecycle from hardware development to operation. We're seeking software engineers to join our teams and help build scalable distributed systems, develop innovative solutions to our challenges, and ship them into production. As part of our network engineering teams, you'll have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge switching technology, collaborate with engineers across the organization, and contribute to the development of Meta's hyper-scale network infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Scale, harden, and evolve in-house routing protocol implementations (BGP, Open/R) and related services to meet next-generation data center, backbone, and AI network needs
Develop software to solve routing problems for the Meta production network
Work hands-on with networking devices and protocols
Participate in the production operation of Tier-0 routing services
Integrate with adjacent systems and evaluate third-party solutions
Partner with Network Engineering and Production Engineering to automate processes, build software infrastructure for network monitoring and analysis, and support capacity planning and architecture change analysis

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

5+ years of software development experience in networking, distributed systems, or a related technical domain, or PhD with 2+ years of experience in a relevant technical area
3+ years relevant experience with network devices and products (routers, switches, adapters, load balancers) and an understanding of network routing protocols in industry settings
Proficiency in C/C++ and at least one scripting language (Python/Shell Scripting)
Experience with developing and automating test suites Experience automating test suites for the Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) framework
Experience with large-scale network design or operations
Experience implementing routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, Open/R) in production software
Experience with debugging tools to navigate large codebases
Experience designing, developing, and deploying networking software services for production network
Experience operating high-criticality (Tier-0) services
