Job Title: R&D Engineer Project Manager III Job Description
The R&D Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and closing catheter or implantable device projects on time, within budget, and within scope. This role involves coordinating cross-functional teams, managing resources, mitigating risks, and ensuring stakeholders are informed and aligned throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Drive product development execution with a cross-functional team to achieve project contract deliverables such as product, features, COGS, timeline, and capacity.
- Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables from concept through commercialization in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets with input from the cross-functional team.
- Monitor progress, track milestones, and adjust plans as needed.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate program risks, issues, and dependencies while ensuring timely escalation and resolution.
- Manage project resources effectively, including personnel and budget.
- Balance development speed with feature scope while meeting high-quality expectations.
- Communicate project status, updates, and risks to stakeholders and leadership.
- Ensure alignment with organizational goals, quality standards, and best practices.
- Facilitate meetings, maintain documentation, and ensure project governance.
- Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned and process optimization.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of leadership experience in a medical device, biomedical, or high technology industry.
- Minimum of 4+ years of project management experience with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with budgeting and financial tracking.
- Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Project, Smartsheet, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies like Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, or hybrid.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or advanced degrees in Engineering, Sciences, Business Administration, or related disciplines.
- Experience in the Medical Device industry with project management experience.
- Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
Work Environment
Typically operates in an office setting. May require occasional travel depending on project needs. Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. On-site in Plymouth, MN. Contract role through August/September 2027, with potential to confirm full-time. Open to occasional remote work, but the baseline expectation is 5 days per week on-site. Travel required to other locations or vendors in the Twin Cities area.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $75.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
