JOB TITLE: SAFETY OFFICER – KITWE, ZAMBIA

We’re looking for a Safety Officer to join our PSE – Repairs team. In this role, you’ll help ensure the health and safety of our employees by supporting occupational health and safety programs, promoting safe work practices and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and company standards.

Your work will play a key part in keeping our operations running safely, smoothly, and efficiently.

You will report to the SC Manager.

This role is based in Kitwe, Zambia.

Team you belong to

You will join the PSE – Repairs team and work closely with employees, the QEHS department, management, auditors and other relevant stakeholders who are committed to maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.

What you'll do

- Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of occupational health and safety policies, programs and procedures.

- Conduct workplace inspections, safety audits and risk assessments to identify hazards, non-conformances and opportunities for improvement.

- Promote workforce protection, safe equipment operation and effective hazard identification and risk mitigation practices.

- Review and update safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current legislation and industry requirements.

- Participate in incident investigations, support workers’ compensation processes and work with relevant stakeholders to determine root causes and corrective actions.

- Prepare reports on incidents, safety performance and workplace occurrences, including statistical information for management.

- Organize and support occupational health and safety training and promote a proactive safety culture across the workplace.

What you'll bring

- GCE (General Certificate of Education) or equivalent.

- Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Safety Management or a related field, with a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from a recognized training institution.

- Relevant experience in a health and safety role within a mining, engineering, manufacturing or workshop environment.

- Sound knowledge of the Zambian Occupational Health and Safety Act 16 of 2024, Occupational Health and Safety regulations, the Zambia Factory Act Chapter 441 and other relevant labour legislation.

- Experience conducting workplace inspections, safety audits, incident investigations and risk assessments.

- Knowledge of industry regulations, standards and best practices applicable to mining and heavy industrial operations.

- Strong communication, presentation, report-writing, analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.

- Training in risk assessment, incident investigation, first aid, fire fighting, emergency response and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.

- Experience in contractor management, permit-to-work systems, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and safety management information systems.
