Job Summary

As a Software Development Engineer II in the Trust Engineering team at JioHotstar, you will build scalable and reliable systems that help keep our platform, users, content, and ecosystem safe and trustworthy. You will work on backend services and platform capabilities that detect, prevent, and mitigate abuse, fraud, policy violations, and other trust-related risks at scale.

You will work closely with product, data science, security, and engineering teams to design and implement solutions that balance user experience, platform integrity, and operational efficiency. The role involves solving complex engineering problems across high-throughput systems, real-time decisioning, data processing, and distributed services.

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving challenging backend problems, working with large-scale systems, and building technology that directly impacts the safety and integrity of a consumer platform.

About the Team

The Trust Engineering team at JioHotstar works at the intersection of engineering, security, data, and user experience to build a safe and trusted streaming ecosystem.

With hundreds of millions of users consuming content across multiple platforms, maintaining trust at scale requires robust systems for identifying suspicious activity, preventing abuse, protecting platform integrity, and enabling responsible user experiences.

The team works on a broad range of engineering challenges, including real-time risk detection, fraud and abuse prevention, account and identity protection, policy enforcement, automated decisioning, and trust-related platform services.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and systems for Trust and Safety use cases.
- Build systems for detecting, preventing, and mitigating abuse, fraud, suspicious activity, and other platform risks.
- Develop real-time and batch processing capabilities to identify and respond to trust-related signals.
- Work with large-scale datasets and event streams to build reliable risk detection and decisioning systems.
- Design APIs, services, and data pipelines that support trust, safety, and platform integrity workflows.
- Collaborate with Product, Data Science, Security, and other Engineering teams to translate business and trust requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Build reliable systems with strong focus on performance, availability, scalability, and data quality.
- Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term solutions.
- Develop monitoring, alerting, and operational mechanisms to ensure reliability of trust systems.
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and engineering best-practice initiatives.
- Continuously evaluate and adopt technologies that improve the scalability, accuracy, and efficiency of Trust Engineering systems.

Skills and Attributes for Success

- Strong programming experience in Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or similar backend languages .
- Good understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and software engineering fundamentals .
- Hands-on experience building backend services, APIs, and distributed systems .
- Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases and understanding of data modeling.
- Experience with Kafka or other event-streaming technologies is preferred.
- Understanding of distributed systems, caching, asynchronous processing, and microservices architecture .
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and performance-tuning skills.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure .
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, alerting, and production troubleshooting.
- Understanding of security, privacy, authentication, authorization, or risk systems is a plus.
- Exposure to fraud detection, abuse prevention, Trust & Safety, identity, risk management, or security engineering is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and operate in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Education and Experience

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in backend/software engineering , preferably working on large-scale consumer or platform systems.
- Experience building and operating production-grade distributed systems.
- Experience in Trust & Safety, Fraud/Risk, Security, Identity, or similar domains is a strong plus.
