Fixed Income Derivatives Trade Processing Management is a core component of HSBC’s purpose and strategy, supporting Global Cash & Financing and Global Markets across the Rates and Credit Derivatives trading lifecycle.

Our global Middle Office team partners closely with the business to deliver accurate, efficient, timely, and well-controlled trade validation, enabling seamless downstream processing. The role also covers the investigation of internal and external system reconciliation breaks, as well as the review of trade documentation and the resolution of settlement discrepancy queries raised by the back office.

We are seeking a high-calibre professional to join as  Vice President, Head of FI Derivatives Middle Office Trade Control . This position is critical to the business, providing leadership and key control function that helps identify trade issues immediately after execution, strengthens end-to-end risk management, and drives simplification of the front-to-back trading lifecycle.

What you’ll do:

Leadership & Global Operating Model:

- Set and delivered global Middle Office Trade Control (MOTC) objectives for Fixed Income Derivatives (FID), aligning strategy across Operations and Front Office locally, regionally and globally.
- Partnered with senior Management and business representatives to agree, secure approval for, and execute a combined global trade control strategy.
- Defined and executed location/site strategy by process, delivering sustainable resourcing, productivity gains and evidenced benefit realisation across multiple hubs and time zones.
- Led multiple direct-report teams across the different products (both vanilla and structured validation controls), ensuring consistent standards and outcomes globally.
- Built teams and succession plans to remove key-person dependencies and embed scalable expertise across the function.

Middle Office Trade Control Delivery:

- Provided dedicated global MOTC coverage to FID trading desks across Rates and Credit Derivatives, ensuring independent control and timely post-trade issue identification and resolution immediately after execution.
- Ensured accurate risk capture and trade validation in our post trade systems; escalated discrepancies to Trading/Sales promptly to protect P&L integrity and reduce downstream breaks.
- Acted as primary contact for internal and external stakeholders on service delivery, independent control, operational risk safety and cost efficiency.
- Supported global Trade Processing Management (TPM) teams and ensured MOTC coverage aligned to best practice and Target Operating Model (TOM).

Control Framework, Operational Risk & Audit/Regulatory Discipline:

- Regularly assessed operational risk inherent in the end-to-end trade flow; implemented and strengthened preventative/detective controls to minimise losses and eliminate repeat errors.
- Built and maintained a robust control set aligned to HSBC’s Control Framework, ensuring controls remained effective, relevant and evidenced.
- Maintained HSBC’s internal control standards, including timely remediation of internal/external audit findings and issues raised by regulators; targeted “zero audit points” through strong governance and testing.
- Ensured effective application of the regulatory framework to relevant trading activity and adherence to internal/external rules, regulations and compliance policies, including Group Compliance policy.
- Drove continuous improvement of the governance model, proactively identifying control gaps and implementing enhancements.

Change, Automation & Business Analysis:

- Provided impact assessment and subject matter input to change initiatives, advising on effects to current processes and control environment.
- Drove change management in partnership with I.T., increasing automation, strengthening controls and improving straight-through processing.
- Served as the global MOTC face-off for new product, system and process specifications; translating Front Office requirements into structured operational solutions.
- Applied strong business analysis and structured project approach to “make things happen”, delivering tangible improvements at pace.

Client/Stakeholder Management & Escalation:

- Served as escalation point for Front Office queries and material trade/control issues, ensuring rapid resolution under tight deadlines in a constantly evolving environment.
- Managed extensive cross-functional engagement with Trading, Sales, Business Management, Legal, Credit, Operations and I.T. to resolve breaks, drive decisions and reduce recurrence.
- Built strong relationship management across stakeholders of all seniority inside and outside the FID asset class; clearly articulated issues, root causes and requirements.

People Management, Talent Development & Culture:

- Set high standards for leadership and team motivation, creating a positive, productive environment and driving a strong culture of ethics and integrity.
- Defined and tracked training plans and a team skill matrix; identified development needs, prioritised upskilling and ensured capability coverage across products and regions.
- Established team targets aligned to departmental goals and financial performance; coached staff to meet organisational standards and achieve their potential.

What you will need to succeed in the role:

- Degree in Banking and Finance, Business or Engineering.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- 10+ years’ experience in Investment/Wholesale Banking, with hands-on exposure and deep understanding to the derivatives trade lifecycle, operational risk scenarios and end-to-end investment banking operating model.
- 5+ years’ experience is managing and building high-performing Team(s), leaders and people.
- Strong FI Derivatives product knowledge across Rates & Credit (vanilla and structured): IRS, CDS, TRS, inflation swaps, options, caps/floors, structured rates and credit-linked notes, etc.
- Hands-on experience with trade capture, trade validation, trade-level reconciliation, investigation and exception management with strong attention to detail.
- Technical understanding of trading/confirmation platforms and workflows (e.g., OSTTRA Connect (ex-MarkitWire/TradeServ), TradeWeb, Bloomberg TOM, Summit, XFOS, Global Calypso).
- Autonomous, responsive, energetic, and adaptable; comfortable with global interactions.
- A Team builder, team player, available and versatile. Able to perform well in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment against tight timelines, with excellent planning, time management and organizational skills.
- Strong resilience and aptitude managing Front Office personnel, stakeholders and counterparts across London, Americas, France, Hong Kong and APAC countries are preferred, managing delivery across time zones.
- Evidence of Thought Leadership within an operational supervisory environment for global market with the ability to apply critical thinking in working group, in crisis and in day-to-day problem solving.
- Assertive influencer able to partner effectively with industry peers, Operations, IT, Trading and Sales.
- High ethical standards and integrity.
- Ability to work in an Asia-European time zone and on Malaysian public holiday.

What additional skills will be good to have?

- Trade validation experience is a preferred with a strong track record for ‘attention to detail’.
- Experience in Client Service and/or Desk Support role (trade capture, trade enrichment and trade compression experience) would be preferable although not essential.
- Programming skills is an added advantage.
- Ability to independently initiate process improvements and encourage the same in others.
