Role Overview
The Worship Production Technician supports the technical execution of worship services, rehearsals, ministry events, and special programs through the operation, preparation, and maintenance of The Cross Church’s audio, video, lighting, presentation, broadcast, and other production systems.
This position helps ensure that all production environments are prepared and executed with excellence, consistency, and minimal distraction so that ministry and worship remain the primary focus. As a full-time member of the Creative Arts team, the Worship Production Technician provides both hands-on technical support and ongoing ownership of production systems, equipment, workspaces, and volunteer readiness throughout the week.
The Worship Production Technician is expected to demonstrate initiative, technical excellence, flexibility, and a servant-hearted approach while contributing to The Cross Church’s high-performance culture and mission to “Spread God’s Fame by Making Disciples of All People.”
The Worship Production Technician reports to the Creative Arts Minister.
Job Classification
Full-time; non-exempt with benefits
Schedule
40 hours per week.
The regular work schedule will include weekday office and production hours as well as ministry hours on Wednesdays, weekends, and other times as required by worship services, rehearsals, special events, holidays, and ministry needs.
Because production ministry frequently occurs outside traditional office hours, flexibility in scheduling is required.
Office Hours:
Monday – Thursday 8AM to 5PM
approximately 28-30 hours per week
Ministry Hours:
Wednesday| Saturday | Sunday
approximately 10 to 12 hours per week
Responsibilities and Expectations
Worship Services and Events
· Operate front-of-house audio systems during worship services, rehearsals, ministry programs, and special events while maintaining consistent, high-quality sound throughout each environment.
· Support and operate livestream and broadcast audio to provide a clear, balanced, and consistent online worship experience.
· Support the operation of lighting, video, presentation, broadcast, and other production systems as assigned.
· Support in-service production elements, including presentation slides, sermon notes, videos, graphics, playback, and other visual or technical content.
· Provide stage management support, including preparing stages, microphones, instruments, cabling, monitors, communication systems, and other technical resources.
· Assist with rehearsals and sound checks to ensure production systems, musicians, speakers, and other program elements are prepared prior to services and events.
· Anticipate technical needs and troubleshoot production issues quickly and effectively before and during services, rehearsals, and events.
Production Preparation and Systems
· Prepare production environments in advance of worship services, rehearsals, meetings, and events, ensuring systems are tested, programmed, configured, and ready for use.
· Review upcoming service and event plans to identify production needs, technical requirements, equipment needs, and potential challenges.
· Coordinate with worship, communications, ministry, and event teams to ensure technical and production needs are clearly understood and appropriately supported.
· Maintain production files, show files, templates, presets, patches, equipment configurations, and other technical resources necessary for consistent production execution.
· Assist with the installation, configuration, testing, and implementation of new production equipment and systems.
Equipment Maintenance and Organization
· Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs of audio, video, lighting, presentation, broadcast, and related production equipment.
· Identify equipment problems and maintenance needs and communicate recommendations for repair or replacement.
· Help maintain an accurate inventory of production equipment, accessories, cables, tools, and other technical resources.
· Maintain organized, clean, safe, and professional production booths, stages, equipment rooms, workspaces, and storage areas.
· Ensure equipment is properly stored, labeled, protected, and returned to its designated location following use.
· Assist with evaluating production equipment, systems, and workflows and recommend improvements that increase reliability, efficiency, quality, or ease of use.
Volunteer and Team Support
· Help recruit, train, equip, and develop production volunteers to serve confidently and effectively in assigned positions.
· Provide clear instruction and technical coaching to volunteers and staff using production systems.
· Help develop and maintain documentation, procedures, checklists, and training resources for production positions and equipment.
· Create a welcoming and encouraging environment for volunteers while maintaining appropriate standards for preparedness and excellence.
· Foster cooperative, healthy, and motivating relationships with staff, volunteers, ministry partners, and church families.
Special and Off-Site Events
· Provide production support for ministry, special, and off-site events as needed, including equipment preparation, transportation, setup, operation, troubleshooting, and teardown.
· Help determine appropriate technical solutions for events based on ministry objectives, venue limitations, available equipment, and production needs.
· Ensure equipment used off-site is properly inventoried, transported, protected, and returned following each event.
General Responsibilities
· Remain current on production technologies, equipment, techniques, and industry practices that may benefit The Cross Church.
· Demonstrate good stewardship of church equipment, resources, facilities, and finances.
· Follow established safety practices and help identify and correct potential safety concerns related to stages, electrical systems, rigging, cabling, equipment, and production environments.
· Maintain appropriate confidentiality and discretion regarding church, staff, member, and ministry information.
· Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to assist with changing ministry priorities and needs.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Experience and Critical Skills
· Agreement with The Cross Church’s statement of faith and mission to “Spread God’s Fame by Making Disciples of All People.”
· Commitment to biblical Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally.
· Established pattern of Bible study, prayer, and participation in the life of the church.
· Working knowledge of professional audio systems and front-of-house mixing.
· Experience with Waves MultiRack or Waves plugins, ProPresenter, and Planning Center preferred.
· Working knowledge of digital audio consoles, signal flow, microphones, wireless systems, monitors, and related audio equipment.
· General knowledge of lighting systems and protocols, including DMX and Art-Net.
· General knowledge of video, livestream, and broadcast production systems.
· Ability to learn new production technologies, software, systems, and equipment.
· Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including the ability to respond effectively to unexpected issues with little notice.
· Ability to anticipate needs and work proactively rather than relying solely on direction.
· Ability to manage multiple moving parts and priorities efficiently in live production environments.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to document systems, processes, and procedures clearly.
· Ability to train, encourage, and work effectively with volunteers with varying levels of technical experience.
· Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment and receive and provide constructive feedback.
· Ability to exercise appropriate judgment, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other ministry hours as needed.
· The Cross Church membership is expected.
· Ability to speak, read, and write English.
· Sufficient physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including prolonged standing, moving production equipment, working on stages, and lifting equipment as required.
· Successful completion of required background screening.
