About this role

Job Title: Mechanical Designer Job Description
The Mechanical Designer develops, documents, and supports product designs for off-road seating systems and related components using advanced 3D CAD tools. This role focuses on creating accurate models and drawings, supporting engineering analysis, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet performance, manufacturability, cost, and customer requirements. The position requires strong technical proficiency in parametric solid modeling, GD&T, and engineering documentation, as well as the ability to manage multiple design tasks with attention to detail and clear communication.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed 3D CAD models and assemblies for off-road seating systems, components, and related hardware.
- Create and update 2D production drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), to clearly define part and assembly requirements.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation such as drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), component specifications, design change records, and supporting product data.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, sales, and project teams to ensure designs meet performance, manufacturability, cost, customer, and end-user requirements.
- Support design reviews by presenting models, drawings, and design rationale and by incorporating feedback into revised designs.
- Participate in prototype builds, sample development, and fit/function evaluations for seats, seat structures, trim, cushions, brackets, and mounting components.
- Review component and product test results to confirm that designs meet functional, performance, durability, safety, and customer requirements for off-road seating applications.
- Apply practical problem-solving skills to resolve design and manufacturability issues and optimize product performance.
- Maintain accurate records of product designs, CAD models, drawings, revision history, and engineering documentation in accordance with established procedures.
- Comply with the Stage Gate product development process, engineering change processes, and applicable quality system requirements.
- Manage multiple design tasks and project priorities, delivering high-quality work within required timelines.
- Communicate clearly with team members and stakeholders to ensure alignment on design intent, requirements, and project status.
Essential Skills
- Associate's degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, or a related field; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Approximately two years of experience in mechanical design, CAD drafting, product design, or related internship/co-op work is preferred.
- Proficiency with CREO or similar parametric solid modeling software, including assemblies, part modeling, surface modeling, and drawing creation.
- Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Demonstrated ability to conceptualize design ideas and develop detailed part and product designs.
- Capability to support engineering analysis through accurate models and documentation.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills applied to mechanical and product design challenges.
- High attention to detail in creating and reviewing models, drawings, and documentation.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple design tasks and project priorities in a timely manner.
- Ability to regularly sit, talk, hear, and use hands to touch, handle, or feel while performing job duties.
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and lift or move up to 25 pounds.
- Visual capabilities including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with seating, vehicle, or off-road equipment design is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with CREO Parametric or Pro/ENGINEER (ProE) for 3D CAD modeling and drafting.
- Ability to create and manage 3D CAD models and assemblies, as well as detailed 2D drawings for production.
- Experience working with bills of materials (BOMs) and designing for manufacturability.
- Familiarity with off-road seating applications, including structures, trim, cushions, brackets, and mounting components.
- Experience supporting prototype builds and sample development activities.
- Understanding of product performance, durability, and safety requirements in mechanical design.
- Knowledge of quality system requirements and structured product development processes such as Stage Gate.
- Ability to maintain organized and accurate engineering records and revision histories.
- Comfort working with 3D CAD tools to support fit/function evaluations and design reviews.
Work Environment
This is a fully on-site role in a professional engineering and manufacturing-focused environment. Work is primarily performed in an office or design studio setting using 3D CAD software such as CREO or similar parametric modeling tools, along with standard office and engineering equipment. The role involves regular computer-based design work, documentation, and collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, sales, and project teams. Occasional time may be spent in prototype or production areas to support builds, sample development, and fit/function evaluations of off-road seating systems and components. The position includes typical physical demands for office and light engineering work, such as frequent sitting and computer use, occasional standing and walking, and the ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds when handling samples or components.
