About this role

We are seeking a capable and curious graduate to join Mulilo’s IT & Systems team in a developmental role focused on business reporting, data validation, and process automation. Reporting to the relevant IT line manager, the successful candidate will help produce and maintain business reporting, run routine data validation checks across core systems, and build automations that remove manual effort from day-to-day processes. The role sits close to the Systems (or Solutions) side of the team, giving direct exposure to the Power BI reporting layer, Power Apps and Power Automate solution development, and the data that underpins business decision-making. The ideal candidate is technically strong, eager to learn, organised in execution, and motivated to build a strong foundation across data, reporting, and digital business processes.

Duties and responsibilities

Business reporting and analytics

- Build, maintain, and publish Power BI reports and dashboards that give the business accurate, timely insight.

- Support the recurring reporting cycle, including data preparation, refreshes, and distribution to stakeholders.

- Respond to reporting and data requests from the business, tracking them through to delivery with clear feedback to the requester.

- Document report definitions, data sources, and metric logic so that business reporting stays consistent and auditable.

Data validation and data quality

- Run and maintain routine data validation checks across core business systems, investigating and clearing exceptions under supervision.

- Reconcile data between source systems and the reporting layer to confirm completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.

- Monitor scheduled data loads, dataset refreshes, and validation exceptions, escalating risks and failures promptly.

- Contribute to well-documented, controlled, and auditable data processes that the business can rely on.

- Support the Microsoft Power BI team in managing the service layer, including datasets, gateways, refresh schedules, and workspace access.

- Support and maintain the SharePoint environment as a data and document source, including new sites, libraries, and lists.

Automation and process improvement

- Build and maintain Power Automate flows and Power Apps solutions that remove manual, repetitive steps from business processes.

- Analyse business processes and data trends to identify automation opportunities and practical gains in efficiency or control.

- Test automations, report changes, and system enhancements before release to users.

- Document flows, report logic, and recurring fixes to strengthen the team’s knowledge base.

Learning, projects, and cross-functional contribution

- Participate in rotational exposure across data, reporting, automation, business applications, and broader systems disciplines where applicable.

- Contribute to small projects and project administration activities, including testing, coordination, scheduling, and follow-up tasks.

- Learn to use project and team planning tools to track the performance of the team and keep our work streams on time.

- Build understanding of Mulilo’s governance, security, and data handling requirements and apply them in daily work.

- Demonstrate ownership of assigned deliverables while actively developing technical capability and professional judgement.

Required qualifications and experience

Minimum requirements

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Data Science, Analytics, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.

- 0–2 years’ relevant experience, including internship, vacation work, academic projects, or graduate programme exposure in a data, reporting, or IT environment.

- Foundational knowledge of data analysis and reporting concepts, business systems, and the Microsoft 365 and Power Platform environment.

- Basic understanding of information security, user access control, and responsible handling of company data.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data and technical matters clearly to non-technical users.

Advantageous

- Exposure to Power BI, SQL, Python, data modelling, automation tooling, or cloud data platforms.

- Experience building dashboards, writing scripts or queries, or working with low-code workflow and automation tools.

- Experience in a corporate environment with structured service delivery, governance, or project disciplines.

- Interest in the renewable energy sector and how digital systems enable operational excellence.

- Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SQL, and SharePoint development experience is also advantageous.

Key competencies

- Learning agility, quickly absorbs new systems, concepts, and processes and applies them effectively in practice.

- Data rigour, treats accuracy and completeness as non-negotiable and checks work thoroughly before it reaches the business.

- Analytical thinking, interrogates data, breaks problems into manageable parts, identifies likely causes, and works methodically toward solutions.

- Organisational discipline, manages tasks, follow-ups, and documentation consistently in a structured environment.

- Communication excellence, explains technical issues clearly, writes concise updates, and engages constructively with different stakeholders.

- Integrity and discretion, handles access, systems, and business information responsibly and with sound judgement.

Desirable attributes

The ideal candidate has a genuine passion for building the systems and standards that make a growing business perform better and is energised by working across every part of the organisation rather than owning a single silo. They bring the quiet authority to hold departments accountable to a shared standard without becoming an auditor and see governance as a lever for enterprise performance rather than a compliance exercise.

Mulilo is an employer of choice and offers an extremely competitive total remuneration package for this position.

Additional information

The position is based at Mulilo's Cape Town offices. Occasional travel to project and construction sites may be required in line with business needs.
