Job purposes:
The core functions define the key areas of responsibility for this role, reflecting the accountabilities and expected outputs outlined in the competency-based profile. These are the primary activities through which the role delivers value to the business.
Key responsibilities:
- To anticipate possible machine reliability problems, which could appear and take appropriate actions to ensure manufacturing process continuity.
- To facilitate and lead problem solving processes; provide inputs/suggestions to the maintenance team leader for continuous improvement.
- To record and analyse breakdown trends per machine using a maintenance system in order to motivate equipment improvement or purchases.
- To render support on ad hoc projects e.g., renovate and refurbish machines/installations and commission in order to optimize process flow.
- To ensure compliance with relevant Food Safety, Health Safety and GMP Requirements through the maintenance of process and document controls according to SOP’s
- To provide on job coaching for Handyman and Apprentices as and when required in line with Premier’s Leadership promise.
- To supervise, train and coach Technical Operators regarding SOP’s and work instructions to ensure best operating practices.
Experience and qualifications:
To perform effectively in this role, the following minimum qualifications and work experience are required:
- N3/N4 Qualification in Relevant field
- Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal)
- 3-5 years’ experience in relevant trade
- 3 years’ experience in a FMCG environment
- Experience with High-Speed Continuous Operations

Working conditions:
This role requires the incumbent to operate in the following environments and manage specific physical or operational demands:
- Understanding of relevant Regulatory and Legislative Requirements e.g., OSH Act/GMP/Food Safety
- Maintenance system skills
- Fault Finding and Root Cause Analysis
- Required to work Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays as per roster
- Required to work shifts and be on standby
- Overtime expected from time to time
- Work with and on heavy equipment and plant (mechanical and electrical)
- Factory environment – hot and noisy
