About this role

Job Summary:

The Parking Ambassador & Facilities Custodian plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and overall customer satisfaction across Park Cedar Rapids parking facilities and skywalks. This hybrid position integrates customer service, custodial maintenance, security support, and operational assistance. The employee ensures that all facilities remain clean, functional, and welcoming for visitors, employees, and downtown patrons.

Essential Responsibilities:

Customer Service & Public Assistance:

Provide courteous and professional assistance to customers using parking ramps, lots, and skywalks.

Assist patrons with vehicle amenities such as jump-starts and tire inflation.

Offer personal safety escorts as needed.

Respond promptly to customer inquiries, concerns, or service requests.

Provide directions or facility information when requested.

Custodial & Cleaning Duties:

Sweep, mop, scrub, and maintain floors in parking ramps, lobbies, and skywalk areas.

Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces including elevators, handrails, doors, and windows.

Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper waste disposal.

Perform routine janitorial tasks such as spill cleanup, dusting, and litter pickup.

Maintenance & Facility Support:

Identify and report facility damage, hazards, or maintenance issues promptly.

Replace light bulbs, damaged signage, or complete other minor maintenance tasks.

Support event operations and assist during peak parking demand.

Conduct regular facility walkthroughs to ensure safety and cleanliness standards are met.

Snow & Outdoor Maintenance:

Perform snow and ice removal tasks including shoveling, salting, and sanding.

Operate snow equipment such as plow trucks or Bobcats (training provided).

Operate lawn care equipment during warmer months, including lawnmowers and trimmers.

Security & Parking Operations:

Conduct parking facilities, security patrols, lockups, and access checks.

Observe and report suspicious activity or safety concerns.

Assist with enforcement of parking rules and direct traffic when necessary.

Inventory & Supply Management:

Monitor, restock, and maintain custodial supplies and cleaning materials.

Maintain documentation of inventory and report shortages.

Team Collaboration:

Coordinate tasks and schedules with coworkers to ensure efficient coverage.

Communicate effectively with supervisors and staff regarding facility needs, concerns, and customer interactions.

Job Qualifications:

Skills & Competencies:

Strong customer service and communication skills.

Ability to multitask and make sound decisions independently.

Physical ability to lift, carry, bend, and perform custodial and outdoor tasks.

Attention to detail in cleanliness, safety, and maintenance reporting.

Ability to operate or learn to operate snow and lawn equipment.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Valid drivers license; ability to meet DOT standards if required.

Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Ability to pass a background check and drug test.

Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Schedule & Compensation:

Seasonal position: Approximately 5-10 hours per week.
Multiple shift durations and types available.
Pay range: $14.50–$16.00 per hour, depending on experience and assignment.
