Mindex is looking for a motivated Co-op Software Engineer to join our team and gain hands-on experience building, testing, and delivering software solutions in a collaborative Agile environment. This is a great opportunity for a student or early-career candidate who is excited to grow technical skills, learn from experienced engineers, and contribute to meaningful projects that have real business impact.
In this role, you’ll work alongside Scrum team members and stakeholders, build a stronger understanding of software development best practices, and gain exposure to modern tools and technologies — including the responsible use of AI to improve efficiency, quality, and innovation..
Essential Functions
Bring an AI-first mindset by using AI-assisted tools and technologies to improve productivity, accelerate problem-solving, enhance quality, automate routine tasks, and support innovation.
- Collaborate with Scrum team members and stakeholders to share deliverable status, provide feedback, and contribute to plans, designs, specifications, source code, test scripts, and documentation.
- Build a foundational understanding of debugging concepts and the tools used to troubleshoot software issues.
- Grow your technical knowledge with mentorship and guidance from more senior engineers.
- Develop an awareness of overall service architecture and contribute to basic functions in ways that avoid duplication across codebases and prevent interface-breaking changes.
- Understand and apply the importance of security in software design, development, and delivery.
Skills & Competencies
- Sound judgment in the ethical, secure, and compliant use of AI technologies while protecting confidential, customer, and company information.
- Curiosity about emerging AI capabilities, tools, and best practices, with the ability to identify opportunities to apply them effectively.
- Intrigue in using AI to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, improve efficiency, and increase business value.
- Ability to use AI to support technical problem-solving and decision-making while maintaining ownership and accountability for final work products.
- At least three years of education and/or prior Co-op experience.
- Familiarity with Java, Angular, Oracle, OpenShift, Python, and/or ASP.NET.
- Familiarity with test automation.
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming and RESTful web services.
- Knowledge of relational databases.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Self-starter mindset with the ability to contribute working software and test automation scripts.
Requirements
- Candidates must be based in the Rochester, NY area and available to work primarily on-site throughout the Co-op experience. Regular in-office participation is an important part of the program and provides valuable opportunities for mentorship, professional development, and collaboration.
What You'll Gain
- Hands-on experience working on meaningful software projects in a professional environment.
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum practices and cross-functional teamwork.
- Mentorship from experienced engineers who will support your technical and professional growth.
- Experience with modern development tools, testing practices, and AI-assisted technologies in a responsible and impactful way.
- An opportunity to build real-world skills that will help prepare you for future software engineering roles.
