The CRNA II is a board-certified licensed clinician who provides anesthesia services to all patients in the organization. General responsibilities include reviewing patients' medical history, administering and managing anesthesia, and monitoring the patient during the procedure or perioperative period. The incumbent is responsible for supplying documentation of continued registration as a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist).

The CRNA II (Shadowing Program) is responsible for recruiting, screening, and managing nursing staff interested in shadowing CRNAs prior to applying to CRNA/DNAP programs. This role coordinates the department's pre-admission shadowing program end-to-end — from initial inquiry through completion of documented shadow hours — while continuing to practice clinically as a CRNA

Department of Anesthesiology Specific Key Responsibilities

Serves as the primary point of contact for RNs and other medical staff interested in shadowing CRNAs prior to applying to CRNA/DNAP programs, screening inquiries for eligibility and clinical readiness.

Develops, maintains, and administers the department's shadow program application, waiver, and confidentiality/HIPAA acknowledgment forms in accordance with hospital compliance and HR policy.

Recruits and maintains a roster of participating CRNA preceptors and coordinates shadow scheduling to balance clinical workload with shadowing requests.

Conducts intake screenings and phone interviews with prospective shadowers to assess ICU experience, CRNA school interest, and program eligibility.

Coordinates day-of logistics for shadowers, including scrubs, orientation, and required compliance paperwork.

Tracks and documents completed shadow hours; signs and verifies shadow logs for inclusion in applicants' CRNA school application packets.

Serves as institutional liaison to regional CRNA/DNAP programs regarding shadowing partnerships and clinical observation agreements.

Maintains program metrics (e.g., number of shadowers, hours logged, CRNA school application/admission outcomes) and reports results to department leadership and recruiting team.

Provides guidance and mentorship to nursing staff pursuing CRNA school on application requirements, certification benchmarks (e.g., CCRN), and shadow hour expectations.

Qualifications

Education
Master's Degree Nurse Anesthesia Practitioner required

Licenses and Credentials
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist - National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists required

Massachusetts Registered Nurse License required

Basis Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support required

Experience
CRNA 2-3 years preferred
