About this role

American Express Canada is seeking a Credit Risk Analyst to support responsible growth and sound customer outcomes across the consumer and small business portfolios. The analyst will primarily develop, evaluate, and monitor strategies for Initial Line Assignment on new accounts and proactive and reactive line-increase decisions for existing customers. The role combines data-driven analysis, risk-return optimization, strong governance, and cross-functional partnership to ensure credit-line decisions are appropriate, sustainable, compliant with applicable requirements, and aligned with the Bank’s risk appetite.

- Bachelor’s degree in quantitative or business discipline such as Statistics, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degree is an asset.
- Experience in credit risk management, underwriting, lending strategy, customer management, portfolio analytics, or a related financial-services discipline.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret large datasets, identify meaningful patterns, and convert findings into practical risk strategies.
- Proficiency with analytical tools such as SQL, Python, R, or equivalent, together with advanced Excel skills; experience with data visualization tools is an asset.
- Understanding of credit bureau information, risk scores, underwriting concepts, line assignment, affordability or debt-capacity considerations, and portfolio performance metrics.
- Ability to balance growth, profitability, customer experience, and credit risk within established governance and regulatory requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain analytical findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.
- Knowledge of the Canadian consumer lending and regulatory environment is an asset.
