About this role

Job Summary:

The Pre-school & Elementary Reading & Literacy Tutor will oversee the individual or small group assistance of preschool age to elementary age students in order to help them gain a better understanding of reading concepts. This tutor may also provide parenting workshops, summer reading list, and other literacy programs to help facility enhanced mastery of the English language for the entire family.

Duties/Responsibilities:

- Develop lesson plans and activities based on student/student group needs.

- Conduct assessments (tests/quizzes) to track progress.

- Work with students to help them understand key concepts and assist students in the areas they find difficult.

- Provide students with positive and constructive feedback.

- Offer feedback on progress to students parents/teachers where appropriate.

- Recognize and adapt to different learning styles and student preferences.

- Stay up to date with state standards for language arts and reading competency.

- Collaborate effectively with parents and the supervisor to increase student performances.

- Any other duties assigned

Qualifications

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

- Proven work experience as a tutor or similar role.

- Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable, and cooperative with children and parents.

- Initiative in creating reading lessons that spark student interest and promote educational growth.

- Creativity and flexibility in order to personalize learning approaches for each individual student.

- Ability to take constructive feedback from the supervisor and parents.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google suite, and related software.

- Functions well in a high-paced environment.

- Ability to learn and work with new computer systems and digital platforms.

- Attention to detail and organization.

- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

- Adjusts easily to changes in priorities, circumstances, or direction.

Education and Experience:

- Bachelors degree required.

- Teaching experience/related degree preferred.

Position Requirements:

- Candidate must be a current DTS student registered at least half-time (5 credit hours if graduate student. 3 credit hours if PhD student).

- Candidate must have completed FAFSA annually. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid will help to determine the candidate's eligibility for this federal work-study position.

- Must select a course schedule that is conducive to the requirements of the role (approved by Supervisor)

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for a prolonged period.

- Ability to stand or walk for a prolonged period.

- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
