Job Summary

The Medical Lab Science Program Educator plays an important role in educating, coaching, and developing the next generation of medical laboratory professionals. This onsite position supports students throughout the didactic and clinical phases of the Medical Laboratory Science program by providing engaging instruction, hands-on learning experiences, mentorship, and individualized guidance.

The Program Educator partners closely with the Program Director, Medical Advisor, laboratory leaders, and clinical staff to ensure students receive a high-quality educational experience that prepares them for successful careers in medical laboratory science.

The ideal candidate brings strong clinical laboratory experience, with clinical expertise in Microbiology and Hematology strongly preferred , along with a passion for teaching, coaching, mentoring, and helping students reach their full potential.

Essential Functions of the Role

- Develops, delivers, and evaluates educational content and learning experiences for students within the Medical Laboratory Science program.
- Provides engaging classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction that is current, relevant, and aligned with program and professional standards.
- Coaches and mentors students throughout their educational experience, providing encouragement, constructive feedback, and guidance to support their academic and professional development.
- Evaluates student performance and learning outcomes, identifies opportunities for improvement, and develops individualized strategies to support student success.
- Creates and updates curriculum, course materials, presentations, learning activities, assessments, and other educational resources.
- Incorporates current laboratory practices, technology, procedures, and industry standards into educational content.
- Supports students in developing the technical knowledge, critical-thinking skills, professionalism, and confidence needed for success in the medical laboratory profession.
- Provides hands-on learning experiences and clinical instruction across applicable laboratory disciplines.
- Maintains accurate documentation of student activities, progress, competencies, and evaluations.
- Meets regularly with the Medical Laboratory Science Program Director, Medical Advisor, laboratory leadership, and clinical staff regarding student progress, curriculum, clinical experiences, and program needs.
- Builds positive relationships with students and serves as a trusted resource for questions related to coursework, clinical experiences, professional development, and career preparation.
- Identifies students who may need additional support and works collaboratively with program leadership to develop appropriate coaching and development plans.
- Maintains current knowledge and technical skills within applicable laboratory disciplines and incorporates emerging practices into the educational experience.
- Supports program activities, meetings, projects, and initiatives related to student learning and academic development.
- Ensures instructional supplies, equipment, and educational resources are available and maintained.
- Promotes a professional, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages accountability, curiosity, collaboration, and continuous growth.
- Performs other duties and educational activities as assigned.

Key Success Factors

- 5 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist , with at least 2 years of teaching, training, coaching, or mentoring experience preferred.
- Clinical laboratory experience in two or more disciplines preferred , with strong preference for experience in Microbiology and Hematology .
- Passion for teaching, coaching, mentoring, and developing students and emerging laboratory professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to provide constructive feedback, motivate learners, and support individuals with different learning needs and styles.
- Strong clinical knowledge and the ability to translate complex laboratory concepts into engaging and understandable learning experiences.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop curriculum, instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to build effective relationships with students, faculty, laboratory professionals, physicians, and program leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, coach, mentor, and develop others.
- Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Education, or a related field preferred.

Qualifications

Education

- Bachelor's degree required.
- Master's degree preferred.

Experience

- 5 years of clinical laboratory experience required.
- Teaching, training, coaching, or mentoring experience preferred.
- Experience in Microbiology and Hematology strongly preferred.

Certification/License/Registration

- Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) certification through ASCP required.

Work Environment

- Onsite position with regular interaction with students, laboratory professionals, program leadership, and clinical teams.
