Position Overview:
We are seeking a dependable, motivated, and safety-conscious Construction Specialist I to join our field operations team. This entry-level role supports daily field construction activities under the direct supervision of experienced personnel and senior team members.
As a Construction Specialist I, you will build foundational skills across general construction, utility locating, pipeline/cathodic protection (CP) systems, drawing interpretation, and project reporting. Key Responsibilities
- General Field Construction: Perform basic field support activities, including material handling, equipment setup, site preparation, and general site cleanup. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
- Utility Locating & One Call Support: Develop an understanding of the UNCC One Call system, excavating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and safe work practices around marked underground utilities. Assist qualified personnel with utility locating and excavation activities.
- Drawings & Work Packages: Learn to read and interpret basic construction drawings, plans, and work packages to identify key components and follow documented work steps.
- Cathodic Protection (CP) Systems: Assist with basic CP installation, inspections, and material handling while developing technical knowledge of corrosion mitigation systems.
- Field Reporting & Cost Documentation: Accurately complete and submit legible daily field tickets, record labor, materials, equipment, and cost tracking codes in a timely manner.
- Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Actively participate in daily safety briefings and toolbox talks. Follow all safety policies, utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and immediately report unsafe conditions or hazards.

- Basic written communication skills for completing accurate daily job tickets and records.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
Preferred:
- Prior field experience in heavy construction, oil & gas, utilities, electrical, or mechanical sectors.
- Familiarity with basic hand/power tools, excavation equipment, or line locating.
- Exposure to construction blueprints, simple mechanical drawings, or cathodic protection systems.
- Valid OSHA, SafeLand, or relevant safety certifications.
Physical & Work Environment
- Environment: 100% field-based; exposed to varying weather conditions, active construction sites, and terrain.
- Physical Demands: Requires standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, and carrying materials and equipment typical of site preparation and heavy construction.
