Job Summary

The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) - Inpatient Pain Management is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider responsible for delivering comprehensive inpatient pain management services across Baylor Scott & White Health facilities in Dallas. The AGACNP will collaborate closely with Dr. Najafi and the multidisciplinary care team to evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic pain conditions in hospitalized patients.

This provider will round on hospitalized patients, develop individualized pain management plans, monitor treatment effectiveness, perform consultative services, and coordinate care with physicians, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals. The AGACNP practices within the scope of delegated authority and established protocols while promoting evidence-based pain management strategies focused on improving patient outcomes, safety, and quality of care.

This is an inpatient-only position with no outpatient clinic responsibilities and a schedule consisting of four 10-hour day shifts per week.

Essential Functions of the Role

- Perform comprehensive inpatient pain management consultations, assessments, and follow-up evaluations.
- Obtain detailed medical histories and conduct focused physical examinations related to acute and chronic pain conditions.
- Evaluate and manage hospitalized patients experiencing post-operative pain, cancer-related pain, neuropathic pain, musculoskeletal pain, and other complex pain syndromes.
- Order, review, interpret, and evaluate laboratory studies, diagnostic imaging, and other tests necessary for treatment planning.
- Develop and implement evidence-based pain management plans in collaboration with supervising physicians and multidisciplinary care teams.
- Prescribe and manage medications in accordance with state laws, organizational policies, and delegated authority.
- Monitor opioid and non-opioid treatment regimens for effectiveness, safety, side effects, and potential complications.
- Provide recommendations for multimodal pain management strategies and non-pharmacologic interventions.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with hospitalists, surgeons, specialists, nursing staff, pharmacy, rehabilitation services, and case management.
- Educate patients and families regarding pain management plans, medications, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.
- Document patient encounters, treatment plans, progress notes, and consultations accurately and timely within the electronic medical record.
- Facilitate appropriate referrals and consultations when patient needs exceed scope of practice or specialty expertise.
- Assist with care transitions and discharge planning as related to pain management needs.
- Support quality improvement initiatives, patient safety goals, and departmental performance metrics.
- Provide coverage across Baylor Scott & White Dallas-area hospitals as needed.
- Perform additional duties and inpatient coverage responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

- Master's degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited program.

Experience

- Acute care clinical training required.
- Previous inpatient experience preferred.
- Pain Management, Hospital Medicine, Critical Care, Palliative Care, Anesthesia, or related specialty experience preferred.

Licensure and Certifications

- Current Texas RN license or compact RN license.
- Current Texas APRN license.
- Current licensing as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP).
- National certification as an AGACNP from an accredited certifying body.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- DEA registration and prescriptive authority eligibility.
