About this role

The Satellite Operations Engineer (GEO) will support all engineering aspects related to ensuring effective in-orbit operations of all on-board subsystems on the assigned GEO satellite bus type(s) in order to maximize health, performance and commercial availability.  The incumbent will also 1) assist in maintaining the ground RF infrastructure utilized to support satellite T&C operations, and 2) support development of automated operations products to enhance efficiencies across all facets of in-orbit operations.

Main Responsibilities

- Following a comprehensive technical review of 1) satellite manufacturer documentation and associated subsystem training, and 2) satellite real-time control system design and operation, support the development of satellite subsystem operations products for the assigned satellite(s).

- Assist staff with ensuring that all satellite operational activities are effectively conducted per established operational requirements and guidelines.

- Oversee the creation, coding, modification and maintenance of satellite operating procedures utilized for control of both current and next-generation satellites.

- Assist with the development of automated operations tools for the purposes of data trending and performance evaluation across all satellite on-board subsystems.

- With a view to maximizing 24/7 availability, assist engineering and technical staff with the maintenance & monitoring of ground RF infrastructure and facilities used to support the T&C operations of our in-orbit fleet.

Education and Experience

- Masters or Bachelors degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, or the equivalent

- A background in Aerospace technologies, with a basic knowledge of radio frequency (RF) and experience in software systems and statistical analysis.

- Relevant experience in the development of satellite operations products and management of operations of satellite subsystems would be an asset

Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Knowledge of satellite subsystem design and operation

- Knowledge of electronics, control systems, RF communications and statistical methods

Demonstrated experience in the following:

- Unix/Linux Operating Systems including shell scripting

- Fluency in Python paradigms, syntax and knowledge of standard python libraries

- GIT Version Control

- General Machine Learning Skills, including common use of AI platforms

- Working knowledge of database architectures (relational and/or time-series)

- Strong analytical, problem solving, real-time decision-making, planning and organizational skills

- Excellent verbal and written English communications skills

- Independent and self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment

Decision Making and Supervision

- Make decisions and recommendations governed by general policy. Recommendations are reviewed for technical soundness or judgment but are generally accepted as technically.

- Once experience is developed, may lead the technical development of operational components for both new and existing satellite programs.

- Manage development projects including collaborating and providing technical guidance to other operational staff

- Office environment

- Occasional off-hours support for special operations and contingency response

- Standard hardware using a variety of Windows/Linux platforms
