Job Description

The Dining Room Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the assisted living dining room and ensuring residents receive exceptional, timely, and personalized dining service. This position leads the dining team, maintains service standards, partners closely with the culinary team, and ensures the dining experience reflects the communitys commitment to resident satisfaction, dignity, safety, and hospitality.

Responsibilities

- Partner closely with the Executive Chef/Dining Services Director & Culinary team to ensure smooth meal service.

- Maintain visible leadership during every meal period.

- Lead by example through professionalism, dependability, and a service-first mindset.

- Communicate menu changes, substitutions, shortages, and resident concerns.

- Ensure our residents are greeted warmly by name and treated with dignity and respect.

- Maintain a welcoming, hospitality forward, restaurant-style atmosphere.

- Address resident concerns and service issues promptly and professionally.

- Monitor food presentation, temperature, portioning, and overall dining experience.

- Conduct regular table visits and check in with residents regarding their meals and service.

- Identify recurring resident concerns and communicate trends to leadership.

- Support special events, celebrations, and resident dining programs.

- Lead, train, coach, and support dining room staff on all policies, procedures and best practices.

- Establish clear expectations for professionalism, attendance, appearance, teamwork, and customer service.

- Create and manage dining room schedules and assignments as directed.

- Conduct pre-shift meetings/huddles as appropriate.

- Monitor staff performance throughout meal service.

- Provide immediate coaching when service standards are not being met.

- Recognize employees who demonstrate exceptional service.

- Foster a positive, respectful, accountable, value centered team culture.

- Monitor meal tickets/orders for accuracy.

- Help ensure food is served at appropriate temperatures and within established service standards.

- Communicate resident feedback regarding food quality and preferences to culinary leadership.

- Ensure dining room staff follow food safety, sanitation, infection-control, and community policies.

- Ensure clear walkways and appropriate accessibility for residents using walkers, wheelchairs, or other mobility devices.

- Report accidents, injuries, or safety concerns according to community policy.

- Participate in required training and maintain required certifications.

- Coordinate with team daily to ensure room service practices are followed

- Assists with set up and cleaning of kitchen and dining room before and after each meal.

Qualifications

- Previous restaurant, hospitality, senior living, healthcare dining, or food-service leadership experience preferred.

- Previous supervisory experience preferred with a minimum of 3 years of full table service experience.

- Strong customer-service, hospitality focused and great communication skills.

- Ability to lead, train and motivate a diverse team.

- Ability to remain calm and professional during busy or challenging meal periods.

- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

- Food-handler certification, servsafe or other required certification based on applicable state/local requirements.

- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as required.

- Must be able to pass a background check

- Must be able to obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Card
