The Lead, Global Disability Management Advisory leads the global disability benefits program and supports all disability-related claims, including non-occupational and occupational absences, medical accommodation requests, and other programs within the disability benefits portfolio. The role provides guidance and support to employees and the business throughout an absence, accommodation review, and return-to-work process, while balancing medically supported employee needs, operational requirements, and applicable legislation.
The role coordinates with external disability and workers’ compensation vendors, People Leaders, Employee & Labour Relations, HR Business Partners, Health & Safety, Payroll, and other stakeholders to ensure timely case initiation, appropriate claim management, and adherence to established processes. It also provides leadership on complex and escalated union and non-union disability claims, while safeguarding the confidentiality and privacy of sensitive medical information.
This is a global role responsible for promoting consistent and transparent disability management practices across regions while ensuring guidelines and processes remain aligned with local legislation.
You Will Be Responsible For:
- Lead the global disability benefits program, including non-occupational disability claims, occupational claims, union and non-union claims, medical accommodation cases, return-to-work programs, and other programs within the disability benefits portfolio
- Complete day-to-day operational tasks for all disability claims globally, from claim submission to resolution
- Partner directly with employees, People Leaders, external vendors, Employee & Labour Relations, Payroll, Health & Safety, HR Business Partners, and other stakeholders as needed to effectively manage disability cases
- Provide Payroll with required pay guidance and support the resolution of pay issues related to occupational and non-occupational disability management, where applicable.
- Assess medically supported restrictions and limitations, review accommodation and return-to-work planning, and balance employee needs with operational requirements.
- Monitor and manage case progress and activity in Workday and ensure employees and external vendors meet documentation requirements while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive medical information.
- Complete and submit required documentation: claims forms to external vendors, reporting required for applicable occupational incident related claims, as well as completing required operational reporting and filing
- Develop and update guidelines, process materials, and employee or leader resources in response to legislative, vendor, program, and/or business changes.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy in all activities due to the highly sensitive nature of the role.
- Educate People Leaders, employees, and HR stakeholders on disability management and accommodation programs, roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
- Analyze vendor and program data to identify trends, service issues, and opportunities to strengthen claim management, employee experience, and program governance.
- Manage disability dashboards and reporting in partnership with People Analytics & Insights (PAI), and translate data into clear insights for stakeholders.
- Manage applicable U.S. parental leave cases and coordinate with internal and external partners to support consistent administration and employee guidance.
Required Skill & Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in human resources, health sciences, social sciences, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in disability management, human resources, occupational health, benefits, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of disability case management, workers’ compensation, medical accommodation, and human resources programs.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to balance employee needs, risk, operational requirements, and program objectives.
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex escalations and time-sensitive matters with sound judgment, discretion, and urgency.
- Ability to prioritize and organize a high volume of work while operating effectively in a fast-paced, global environment with minimal supervision.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting regional or global disability management models, with knowledge of North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific practices considered an asset.
- Disability Management certification, such as the Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) designation, is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical skills, including experience working with Workday (or any other HRIS), Excel, vendor reporting, and data trends
- Strategic mindset, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality, privacy, and a respectful employee experience.

The expected salary range for this position is $86,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year, prorated based on the term of the contract.
