Job Title: Layout Engineer Job Description
The Layout Engineer will be responsible for developing and integrating automotive manufacturing system layouts. This role ensures seamless coordination between customers, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to deliver efficient, install-ready production systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain zone layouts and integrated manufacturing layouts.
- Ensure proper placement, accessibility, and reach envelope validation of robotic systems, tooling, fixtures, and automation equipment.
- Coordinate and develop all internal and external integrated 3D layout design activities.
- Gather, review, and consolidate project requirements, technical specifications, and layout inputs from customers, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Document and communicate layout decisions, engineering changes, customer requirements, and supplier updates to ensure alignment across project stakeholders.
- Create and release installation drawings to the manufacturing department and customer installation group.
- Review all mechanical engineering drawings prior to final release, ensuring compliance for customer buyoffs.
- Create, maintain, and manage Bills of Material (BOMs), equipment lists, and project tracking documentation.
- Travel to customer and manufacturing facilities to conduct on-site plant walks and field checks to verify equipment locations, identify as-built deviations, and update 2D/3D layouts to accurately reflect installed conditions.
- Serve as the primary contact for system layout activities with customers, suppliers, and internal program teams within a project.
Essential Skills
- Experience in plant layout or system layout of automated equipment.
- Experience designing in and utilizing AutoCAD 2D and 3D.
- Proficient in Siemens NX for 3D model translation and design collaboration.
- Virtual placement experience within manufacturing facilities for automated equipment and robot placement.
- 5+ years of experience, as the role requires working independently.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with FactoryCAD.
- Experience with Teamcenter.
Work Environment
This role is part of a smaller department within a global automation systems integrator that serves diverse end markets. The focus is on designing, building, testing, and integrating custom solutions to automate operations and solve unique challenges. The engineer will work fairly independently but will require collaboration with customers and engineering teams. The work week is approximately 45 hours, and the role involves traveling to customer manufacturing facilities for on-site tasks. Paid holidays and PTO are provided.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
