Job Title: Civil Superintendent Job Description
Direct and oversee daily field operations for civil construction projects including earthwork, grading, underground utilities, stormwater systems, concrete, paving, and infrastructure improvements. Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and internal project teams to achieve project milestones and maintain productivity. Allocate labor, equipment, and materials to maximize efficiency and support construction schedules. Lead daily planning meetings and communicate project priorities, safety expectations, and operational objectives to field personnel. Identify potential schedule impacts and implement corrective actions to maintain project timelines.
Responsibilities
- Supervise excavation, utility installation, drainage improvements, roadway construction, structural concrete placement, and site preparation activities.
- Ensure all work is performed according to plans, specifications, permits, and applicable regulations.
- Coordinate utility connections, testing, inspections, and infrastructure commissioning activities.
- Monitor quality throughout construction and ensure work meets design intent and performance requirements.
- Support field engineering efforts by identifying constructability concerns and developing practical solutions.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for field execution activities.
- Monitor subcontractor performance, manpower levels, and production goals.
- Resolve field conflicts involving logistics, access, sequencing, utilities, and construction operations.
- Review daily work plans and ensure crews have the resources necessary to perform work safely and efficiently.
- Assist with evaluating change requests, project scope modifications, and contractor performance.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations.
- Conduct daily safety audits, toolbox talks, and site inspections.
- Ensure proper implementation of erosion control measures, stormwater management practices, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Investigate and document incidents, near misses, and safety concerns while implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe construction site.
- Perform field inspections to verify workmanship and specification compliance.
- Review drawings, RFIs, submittals, and construction documents with project teams.
- Coordinate testing, surveying, and inspection activities throughout project execution.
- Maintain daily reports documenting progress, manpower, equipment usage, deliveries, weather impacts, and key construction activities.
- Track budget, schedule, and construction progress while identifying risks and recommending solutions.
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment mobilization, storage areas, and construction staging.
- Manage temporary facilities, access control, site circulation, and operational logistics.
- Support operations and facility teams to minimize disruptions during active construction activities.
- Assist with project turnover, punch-list completion, and final closeout activities.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of experience supervising heavy civil, industrial, infrastructure, utility, or commercial construction projects.
- Proven experience managing field crews, subcontractors, and concurrent construction activities.
- Experience with earthwork, drainage systems, utility installation, concrete construction, grading, paving, or site development projects.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical documents.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Work Environment
The work environment involves launch pad infrastructure. It requires coordination of material deliveries, equipment mobilization, and construction staging. The role demands managing temporary facilities, access control, and site circulation. The superintendent will support operations and facility teams to minimize disruptions during active construction activities.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cocoa, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $52.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
