Job Title: Electrical Designer Job Description
The Electrical Designer prepares detailed architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings while ensuring accuracy and adherence to specifications. This role interprets bid letters, customer specifications, and customer-supplied drawings to develop complete design packages, performs standard engineering calculations, and creates work orders and Bills of Material alongside drawing production. The position provides technical support to internal teams and customers and includes occasional travel to support projects and collaborative initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Prepare a wide range of detailed architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings with a strong focus on accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications.
- Interpret and break down information from bid letters, customer specifications, and customer-supplied drawings to develop comprehensive and coordinated design packages.
- Perform standard engineering calculations, including AC service, HVAC, energy load, and structural calculations, to support design decisions and ensure system performance.
- Develop work orders and detailed Bills of Material (BOMs) concurrently with drawing production to ensure timely and accurate documentation for manufacturing and installation.
- Provide technical support and guidance to factory personnel, sales teams, and customers, helping to clarify design intent, resolve technical questions, and support project execution.
- Collaborate regularly with cross-functional teams, including design, factory, and sales, to align project requirements, resolve issues, and maintain consistent design standards.
- Utilize industry-standard software tools such as AutoCAD and/or Revit, Microsoft Word, and Excel to produce drawings, documentation, and calculations.
- Support continuous improvement of design processes and documentation practices by applying strong technical aptitude across architectural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
- Travel occasionally to project sites, customer locations, or other facilities to support projects, provide technical assistance, and participate in team meetings when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the department leadership to support departmental goals and overall project success.
Essential Skills
- Strong technical aptitude in architectural, mechanical, and electrical design disciplines, with the ability to integrate these areas into cohesive design solutions.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit, using the latest software releases to produce accurate and detailed design drawings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation, reporting, and engineering calculations.
- Solid understanding of algebra, geometry, and engineering-related mathematical formulas to perform standard engineering calculations such as AC service, HVAC, energy load, and structural calculations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across design, factory, sales, and customer teams.
- Ability to interpret bid letters, customer specifications, and customer-supplied drawings and translate them into complete design packages.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage drawing production, work orders, and Bills of Material concurrently.
- Ability to provide clear and reliable technical support to internal teams and customers.

- Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites, customer locations, or other facilities to support projects and internal teams.
Work Environment
The role operates in a professional design and engineering environment that relies heavily on computer-based tools and industry-standard software, including Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and the latest releases of AutoCAD and/or Revit. Work is primarily office-based and focuses on detailed drawing production, engineering calculations, and documentation. The position involves regular collaboration with design, factory, and sales teams, fostering a supportive and technically driven culture. Occasional travel to project sites, customer locations, or other company facilities may be required to support projects, provide technical assistance, and participate in cross-functional meetings.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Duffield, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $95000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Client offers a contributory insurance package of group health, dental, life and disability, as well as a prescription drug benefit and a vision plan. You will be automatically enrolled at a 3% contribution rate in VFPs 401(k) plan. Other benefits include paid time off (PTO) and paid holidays. Client also offers Employee Assistance Program for select educational pursuits.
