About this role

The Canadian Opera Company is now accepting applications for the position of Facility Steward. This is a full-time, in-person position at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts (FSCPA) in the Building Services Department, reporting to Facilities Management. This is an existing vacancy arising from the departure of a previous team member and is a full-time position with a salary range of $38,000 - $44,000 per annum depending on experience.

OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Facilities Coordinator, this position plays a critical role in ensuring patrons and guests have an exceptional experience when attending performances and special events at the FSCPA. Acting as a good communicator and reliable support for the Building Services Team, the position is responsible for checking all building areas, receiving deliveries, moving and setting furniture and providing preventative maintenance and basic repairs. As a member of the Facilities team, you will play a key role in maintaining facilities operations for the FSCPA.

This is an in-person position with no option for hybrid or remote work, as scheduled Saturday through Friday, may include evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Building Maintenance and Upkeep

- Monitor building condition and perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance.

- Maintain inventory control and distribute building supplies and consumables.

- Perform seasonal exterior maintenance including snow removal and cleaning.

- Install and maintain all signage

Operational Support

- Assist with setup and teardown of non-jurisdictional assets for performances, events, and tenant activities.

- Accept and coordinate deliveries and vendor access to the building.

Safety and Facility Monitoring

- Conduct building patrols and report safety issues or maintenance concerns.

- Support emergency procedures including fire safety inspections and incident response.

Administrative and Team Collaboration

- Maintain facility logs and operational records.

- Collaborate with security, housekeeping, and operations teams to maintain building readiness.

Experience and Skills

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)

- Experience in facility maintenance, construction trades, or building services.

- Familiarity with basic carpentry, repairs, and building equipment.

- Ability to lift equipment and perform physical tasks as required.

- Ability to climb ladders, comfortable working at heights, in tight spaces, and in dim lighting

- Ability to stand for long periods of time

- On-site work environment in operation facility

- Evening and weekend work required based on operational needs

- Regular lifting, material handling, and equipment use

- Occasional work outside standard hours for operational needs
