JOB SUMMARY:

May include but not limited to: pick non-ferrous metals from moving coveyor, cleans around mill, assists shredder mechanics in general maintenance, feed conveyors & other equipment, sort, stack and move materials throughout the yard. Prepares material for loading and unloading, general clean up of yard, cut larger pieces of scrap steel using cutting torch.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Handle, sort, inspect, grade, and organize scrap metal and non-ferrous materials throughout the yard, ensuring materials are properly prepared and positioned for processing, storage, loading, and unloading.

·         Operate and assist with conveyors, shredders, and other yard equipment, including feeding material and performing routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs as required.

·         Prepare scrap materials for processing and shipment, including cutting larger pieces of scrap steel with a cutting torch to assigned sizes and quality specifications.

·         Support maintenance activities by assisting shredder mechanics and providing general help in the mechanical and truck shops as required.

·         Maintain a clean and safe work environment by performing general yard and equipment clean-up, following all applicable SOPs, SWPs, JSAs, safety regulations, and PPE requirements.

·         Perform physical labour and other assigned duties as required, including lifting, moving, stacking, and handling materials, and work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and other shifts in support of a 24-hour operation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

·         High School Diploma or GED

·         No experience necessary but previous work experience in a manufacturing, production or similar scrapyard environment will be considered an asset

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

- Able to meet the physical demands of the position including standing, walking, sitting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, moderate to heavy lifting, and pushing and pulling for up to 12hrs a day
- Willingness to learn, Self motivated, takes initiative
- Strong communication skills- communicates clearly and consisely, both orally and in writing and over mobile radio devices
- Strong work ethic – uses time efficiently, works safely and ensure everyone around them is working safely
- Stong attention to detail with close visual attention for sustained/long period of times
- Able to work in all types of weather – hot, dry summer conditions and cold harsh winter conditions
- Willing and able to work shift work
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Safety conscious and orientated
- Able to work with minimal supervision
