About this role

Davidson is distinguished in the aerospace and missile defense industry, in part, because of its excellence in hiring exceptional experts, engineers and software developers dedicated to delivering advanced, intelligent technology solutions in defense of our nation.

Davidson is hiring a MBSE Software Systems Engineer 2 in Colorado Springs, CO. who will work with the Air Force designing, developing, and deploying software for the United States' next-generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). This is an opportunity to start with a clean slate, rather than revamping a decades-old missile.

Job Responsibilities

- Analyzes customer requirements, concept of operations (CONOPS) documents, and high-level system architectures to develop, decompose, allocate, and maintain system requirements specifications using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices.

- Develops and maintains SysML-based system models to represent system requirements, structure, behavior, interfaces, allocations, constraints, and verification relationships.

- Analyzes system requirements and leads systems engineering design and development activities using model-based methods to establish and maintain traceability from mission needs through requirements, architecture, design, implementation, and verification .

- Guides users and stakeholders in formulating and refining requirements, advises on alternative approaches, and conducts feasibility and trade studies using both analytical and model-based techniques.

- Provides technical leadership for the integration of requirements, system architecture, design, interfaces, technology, and verification activities within the MBSE environment.

- Develops and maintains system architecture models, including functional, logical, physical, behavioral, and interface views, consistent with established system engineering processes and modeling standards.

- Defines and manages system interfaces and interface relationships , including software-to-software and software-to-hardware interfaces, and supports development and maintenance of Interface Control Documents (ICDs).

- Establishes and maintains requirements-to-architecture, architecture-to-design, and requirements-to-verification traceability within engineering models and supporting tools.

- Incorporates new plans, designs, technologies, and system capabilities into ongoing operations while maintaining model consistency and configuration integrity.

- Develops technical documentation, including system architecture, system design, requirements, interface, trade study, and verification documentation, leveraging MBSE artifacts and model-derived views where appropriate.

- Guides system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMPs), system integration plans, and system verification and test plans.

- Collaborates with Systems Architects, Software Architects, Product Owners, software engineers, hardware engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve systems engineering technical considerations, issues, risks, and conflicts.

- Supports model-based integration and verification activities , ensuring that system requirements and architectural elements are appropriately linked to verification methods and test objectives.

- Applies systems engineering and MBSE best practices across the system lifecycle, supporting consistency, reuse, configuration management, and technical baseline integrity.

- Holds technical accountability for the integrity, quality, traceability, and successful execution of systems engineering and MBSE deliverables within the assigned area of responsibility.

Basic Qualifications

- 5 plus years of experience with a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science) or related discipline. 8 to 10 years of additional systems engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.

- Foundational knowledge of the DoD systems engineering lifecycle , including requirements analysis, requirements decomposition and allocation, system architecture, interface definition, integration, and verification and validation, gained through academic coursework, internships, research, or engineering projects.

- Foundational knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and Systems Modeling Language (SysML) , with the ability to develop, interpret, and maintain basic system models.

- Understanding of fundamental MBSE concepts, including model-based requirements management, system structure, behavior, interfaces, allocations, traceability, and verification relationships .

- Exposure to MBSE and systems engineering tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw, IBM DOORS/DOORS Next , or similar requirements and modeling environments.

- Foundational understanding of software and systems architecture, including software-to-software and software-to-hardware interfaces and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
