Reports To: Veterinary Nursing Manager or Hospital Director
Direct Reports: Veterinary Technicians/Veterinary Nurses, Veterinary Assistants, and Veterinary Nursing Leads, as assigned
People Management: Yes
Administrative Time: Approximately 30%

We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Nursing Supervisor to lead our Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants while overseeing day-to-day nursing operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced veterinary professional who enjoys developing people, improving clinical operations, and maintaining exceptional standards of patient care. The Nursing Supervisor partners closely with the Veterinary Nursing Manager, Hospital Director, and clinical leadership to support staffing, training, performance management, workflow, and the continued development of the nursing team.

Responsibilities

- Oversee daily nursing operations, ensuring appropriate staffing, workflow, patient coverage, and efficient use of hospital resources.
- Supervise Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, and Veterinary Nursing Leads as assigned.
- Maintain high standards of patient care through active supervision, coaching, adherence to clinical best practices, and performance management.
- Mentor nursing team members and support their continued clinical and professional development.
- Develop staff schedules and adjust coverage based on patient volume, hospital needs, and employee availability.
- Lead team meetings to communicate priorities, distribute responsibilities, gather feedback, and strengthen collaboration.
- Partner with hospital leadership on nursing strategy, staffing needs, department performance, and operational planning.
- Lead and participate in interviewing and selecting Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, and other nursing team members.
- Manage payroll, timecards, and time-off requests for direct reports while maintaining appropriate department coverage.
- Partner with nursing training resources to identify skill gaps and coordinate clinical training and professional development.
- Support compensation and performance discussions in partnership with the Veterinary Nursing Manager or Hospital Director.
- Provide regular feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations to direct reports.
- Address employee concerns and mediate team conflicts professionally and consistently.
- Oversee nursing department supplies and equipment to ensure teams have the resources necessary to provide exceptional patient care.
- Maintain open communication with nursing staff, veterinarians, department leaders, and hospital leadership.
- Promote a professional, collaborative, inclusive, and team-focused hospital culture.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a nursing team member in a veterinary hospital.
- Minimum of one year of veterinary leadership experience.
- Experience supervising Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, or other clinical team members.
- Strong leadership, coaching, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to manage staffing, scheduling, workflow, and changing hospital priorities.
- Strong organizational, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to balance hands-on clinical leadership with administrative and people-management responsibilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced veterinary hospital environment.
- Commitment to exceptional patient care and the development of high-performing veterinary teams.
- Credentialing as a Veterinary Technician/Nurse ( RVT, CVT, LVT, or LVMT ) in the state of practice is preferred.
