Purpose of the Role
The Specialist, Business Development & Marketing will be responsible for providing support in the business development needs of the Regional office and dedicated sector focuses to enable revenue growth for the Region, in alignment with the Firm’s strategic plan. The incumbent will work closely with and support the Director, Regional Business Development.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and the execution of the business development plan for the Vancouver Market by coordinating initiatives, tracking progress, and ensuring alignment with national priorities.
- Provide targeted business development and profile-raising support to Vancouver practice groups and initiatives, including coordinating materials and submissions.
- Supporting the national Arbitration Group by assisting with ranking guide submissions, business planning, development of Insights, tracking memberships and leadership positions within industry organizations, tracking conferences and assisting with website updates and promotional content.
- Supporting execution of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC partnership, including managing asset deliverables, hospitality activations, promotional initiatives, co-branded merchandise, stakeholder communications, partnership reporting requirements, ticketing and the coordination of Train Like a ‘Cap and B90 events, as well as other partner-related initiatives.
- Lead and support sponsorship strategy and execution by evaluating incoming opportunities, conducting research and making approval recommendations, coordinating internal workflows, and maximizing brand exposure and client engagement outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to showcase thought leadership materials, to create profile and visibility for the Firm and individual lawyers in the marketplace.
- Support client service and client development initiatives, including staying informed on client, industry, and sector trends.
- Coordinating the Vancouver Marketing and Business Development Committee meetings, including preparing materials, developing agendas, taking minutes, and tracking follow-ups and action items to support execution of office priorities.
- Preparing submissions for various legal directories, guides and awards in coordination with the relevant practice groups and the Director, Regional Business Development.
- Drafting and coordinating business development communications, including monthly business development bulletins and reports, and ad hoc reporting on events, sponsorships, and client engagement activities , internal announcements
- Support client facing and internal events
- Administer and track BD budgets and expenses for the Vancouver office and practice groups, including preparing expense requests, reconciling spend, and ensuring alignment with approved budgets and allocations
- Provide operational and administrative support to the regional BD function, including maintaining record keeping spreadsheets, sponsorship tracking, internal communications, and special projects.
- Support and coordinate firmwide and regional programs and initiatives, including the Driven by Women initiative, Alumni Program, and broader firm efforts.
- Coordinating the Rogers Arena Suite and Whitecaps hospitality assets, including working with relevant lawyers on ticket allocation, ‘Know Before You Go’ communications, and catering requirements for suite
- Tracking award nominations, and researching strategic award opportunities to support client development and profile-building efforts
- Contributing to the development and refinement of BD processes, tools, and workflows including developing and managing trackers and workback schedules to improve team efficiency and consistency
- Managing industry event opportunities, including strategic outreach to relevant lawyers and coordinating bookings
- Preparing BD Expense Request Forms and liaising with lawyers and appropriate BD leads to secure approvals
- Managing Big Sky golf membership, including coordinating bookings and facilitating firm donations
- Coordinating lawyers’ website biographies and headshots, including onboarding new associates and ensuring all lawyer profiles are up-to-date to strengthen external visibility
- Execute other business development projects as assigned.
Key Competencies
- Undergraduate education in Business Administration, Marketing, or a relevant field
- 5 years+ of progressive business development or marketing experience, preferably in a professional services environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix management environment
- Knowledge of financial reporting concepts and quantitative analysis methods
- In-depth understanding of legal and business environments
- Strong executive presence and conduct, able to work with Senior Management of the Firm
- Experience implementing programs from concept to successful completion
- Demonstrated experience in all aspects of business development and marketing
- Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills
- Strong project and time management skills and ability to manage a variety of concurrent projects
- Established knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software (e.g., Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and CRM
- Strong organization and teamwork skills
- Strong oral and enhanced written communication skills
- Availability to work overtime
The expected salary range for this position is $68,000 - $113,000, depending on level of experience, region/location, and other factors.
