What You Will Do

Johnson Controls invites you to apply for an HVAC Controls Internship designed to provide hands-on experience within our Building Automation Systems (BAS) organization. This internship offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and field teams to support the design, programming, commissioning, and operation of building control systems that help create smarter, healthier, and more sustainable buildings.

As an intern, you will gain exposure to HVAC controls, building automation technologies, system integration, and project execution while applying knowledge gained through your academic studies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to real-world projects that drive customer success.

How You Will Do It

- Assist with the design and configuration of building automation and HVAC control systems in accordance with project requirements.
- Support the development of system flow diagrams, sequences of operation, network layouts, electrical schematics, and bills of material.
- Assist with programming, testing, and troubleshooting building automation software under the guidance of experienced engineers.
- Help coordinate project documentation, drawings, and equipment schedules for customer submittals and installation activities.
- Support material ordering, tracking, and project documentation processes.
- Participate in controller loading, system startup, and commissioning activities.
- Assist with validating system functionality and identifying solutions to technical issues alongside field teams and project stakeholders.
- Support the integration of building systems such as HVAC, lighting, fire, security, and other low-voltage building technologies.
- Help document field changes and support the development of as-built drawings and software updates.
- Participate in project meetings and collaborate with engineers, technicians, subcontractors, and customers.
- Observe and assist with customer training sessions on building automation systems.
- Follow Johnson Controls safety standards and contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Travel to customer sites as needed to support project activities.

Required Qualifications

- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, HVAC, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in HVAC systems, building automation systems, controls, or the construction industry.
- Basic understanding of engineering principles and technical problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to multiple audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
- U.S. citizen or legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

- Coursework or exposure to HVAC systems, controls, automation, or electrical systems.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, drafting software, or engineering design tools.
- Exposure to building automation systems, control theory, or networking concepts.
- Knowledge of industry communication protocols such as BACnet or similar technologies.
- Demonstrated leadership through academic, extracurricular, volunteer, or work experiences.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE : $22.00 - $25.50 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
