About this role
## Company:
Qualcomm Intl Inc., Mexico Branch Office
## Job Area:
Information Technology Group, Information Technology Group > IT Engineering
General Summary:
We are looking for a Senior Jenkins Administrator to own and evolve our enterprise Jenkins platform used by multiple engineering teams. In this role, you will manage Jenkins as a highly available, secure, scalable CI/CD service , deployed across Linux virtual machines, Kubernetes clusters, and cloud infrastructure . You will lead platform operations, reliability engineering, security hardening, and automation—ensuring Jenkins remains a dependable backbone for build, test, and deployment workflows.
You will partner closely with application teams, SRE/Platform Engineering, Security, and Infrastructure to deliver a robust Jenkins service with clear operational standards, observability, and governance.
Responsibilities
Jenkins Platform Operations & Administration
- Own day‑to‑day administration of Jenkins controllers (shared and/or dedicated), including configuration, upgrades, plugin lifecycle management, and scaling.
- Manage Jenkins at an infrastructure/platform level: controller sizing, agent strategy, capacity planning, and overall platform reliability.
- Standardize Jenkins configurations using “configuration as code” practices (e.g., controller configuration management, repeatable provisioning).
- Implement operational runbooks, on‑call readiness, incident response procedures, and root cause analysis for Jenkins platform issues.
Reliability, Availability & Performance Engineering
- Ensure high availability, resilience, and performance of Jenkins infrastructure across VMs and Kubernetes .
- Design and implement backup/restore strategies (controller configuration, job metadata where applicable, secrets references, and artifacts integration points).
- Define and track SLOs/SLAs, platform health KPIs, and continuous improvements to reduce MTTR and operational toil.
- Troubleshoot complex issues spanning Jenkins, agents, networking, storage, DNS, certificates, identity, and underlying OS/K8s layers.
Kubernetes, Containers & Build Agents
- Operate Jenkins on Kubernetes (where applicable), including controller deployments, ingress, persistent storage, and network policies.
- Build and maintain enterprise-grade agent container images (toolchains, security baselines, patching, provenance).
- Optimize agent provisioning strategy (static vs. dynamic agents), resource quotas/limits, node/pod scheduling, and isolation for multi‑tenant environments.
- Establish governance around agent images, tool versions, and dependency management to ensure consistency and reproducibility.
Security, Compliance & Governance
- Implement secure Jenkins patterns: RBAC/authorization, least privilege, credential governance, secrets management integrations, and auditability.
- Drive platform hardening: secure plugin usage, controller/agent isolation, network restrictions, and secure defaults.
- Partner with Security teams to remediate vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with enterprise policies (e.g., access reviews, logging, change control).
Cloud & Infrastructure Integration
- Support Jenkins deployments and integrations across cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP or internal cloud), including IAM concepts and connectivity patterns.
- Integrate Jenkins with enterprise services such as artifact repositories, container registries, SCM systems, secret stores, and observability stacks.
- Automate provisioning and changes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD for platform components.
Stakeholder Enablement & Support
- Provide best practices, consultation, and platform support for application teams consuming Jenkins (tenants).
- Create clear documentation, onboarding guides, and self-service patterns to improve developer experience while maintaining governance.
- Participate in change management, release planning, and communications for platform maintenance windows and upgrades.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3 years’ experience with a bachelor’s degree, 5 years without of the following: CI/CD, DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering with 3+ years hands-on Jenkins administration in enterprise environments.
- Strong experience managing Jenkins controllers and plugins, including upgrades, compatibility management, and operational troubleshooting.
- Solid Linux systems administration skills (processes, systemd, networking, storage, performance, troubleshooting).
- Working experience with Kubernetes concepts (deployments, services/ingress, PV/PVC, RBAC, namespaces, resource management, troubleshooting).
- Strong understanding of Docker/containers (image creation, registries, runtime basics, security scanning fundamentals).
- Experience with scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, Python, Groovy , or similar) for operational tasks and repeatability.
- Knowledge of authentication/authorization integrations (SSO/OIDC/SAML/LDAP as applicable) and credential management practices.
- Familiarity with monitoring/logging/observability tools (e.g., Prometheus/Grafana, ELK, Splunk, Cloud logging) and incident management.
- Comfortable working in a multi-tenant environment with governance, security controls, and reliability expectations.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience running Jenkins in Kubernetes at scale , including controller resiliency patterns and dynamic agent provisioning.
- Hands-on with Jenkins “as code” approaches (e.g., controller configuration automation, Job DSL concepts, pipeline governance at platform level).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Argo CD, etc.) to standardize Jenkins deployments and changes.
- Knowledge of network/security controls relevant to CI/CD platforms (TLS/cert lifecycle, proxies, firewall policies, service mesh, mTLS concepts).
- Experience integrating with enterprise tooling:
- SCM (GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket), Artifact repos (JFrog/Nexus), container registries, secret managers (Vault), ticketing/ITSM.
- Exposure to cloud security/IAM patterns and building secure pipelines for regulated environments.
- Experience with scaling frameworks and autoscaling patterns for build agents (e.g., K8s autoscaling, queue-based scaling strategies).
- Strong documentation skills and ability to build self-service enablement for development teams.
Additional Notes
- This role is focused on Jenkins platform administration and infrastructure, not on writing application pipelines.
- The role requires participation in an on‑call rotation to ensure timely support during off‑hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
• 3+ years of IT-related work experience with a Bachelor's degree.
OR
5+ years of IT-related work experience without a Bachelor’s degree.
