What is the Opportunity?
Aecon Water is a national leader in the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure, specializing in the planning, construction, and rehabilitation of critical municipal and regional systems. We provide clients across Canada with end‑to‑end solutions, combining technical expertise, self‑perform capabilities, and a strong focus on safety, quality, and project delivery excellence.
Aecon Water Infrastructure is supporting the delivery of a major regional wastewater programs in Winnipeg and Niverville, Manitoba , and we are currently looking for a Project Coordinator to join the team. These projects includes the construction of a new wastewater treatment facility and conveyance system serving Manitoba, supporting long-term regional growth and improved environmental stewardship.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Coordinator supports the day‑to‑day execution of the project by assisting with schedule coordination, RFI's, progress tracking, reporting, procurement, and overall project coordination. The role involves working closely with the field team, engineering, subcontractors, and the owner to track deliverables, support forecasting, identify potential risks, and help ensure the project remains aligned with schedule and cost objectives.
What You'll Do Here:
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical and electrical scopes, working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, engineering, subcontractors, suppliers, and other disciplines.
- Review mechanical and electrical drawings, specifications, vendor documentation, and construction packages to support field execution and identify discrepancies, constructability concerns, or missing information.
- Prepare, issue, and track RFIs related to mechanical and electrical work by coordinating with field supervision and engineering to clarify technical requirements and resolve site issues.
- Coordinate material and equipment requirements with field supervision, including preparing material requests, tracking purchase orders and vendor documentation, and monitoring delivery dates against construction requirements.
- Support the coordination of mechanical equipment, piping, electrical systems, instrumentation, and associated installation activities based on the assigned scope.
- Assist with technical submittals, shop drawings, equipment data sheets, vendor drawings, and other engineering documentation, ensuring information is reviewed and available to the field when required.
- Track installation progress, quantities, productivity, labour, and completed work for assigned mechanical and electrical scopes, providing accurate information for project reporting and forecasting.
- Support short-term planning and schedule coordination, including look-ahead schedules, manpower requirements, equipment and material availability, and identification of constraints affecting mechanical and electrical work.
- Assist the Project Manager with cost and schedule forecasting by gathering field information, reviewing trends, tracking commitments, and identifying potential scope, schedule, or cost impacts.
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical interfaces with civil, structural, architectural, and other project disciplines to identify and resolve conflicts before they impact field execution.
- Work closely with the Quality team to coordinate inspections, testing requirements, material documentation, inspection and test plans, deficiencies, and completion records for mechanical and electrical scopes.
- Support equipment installation, testing, system completion, turnover, and commissioning activities, including maintaining required documentation and tracking outstanding items.
- Maintain accurate project records including RFIs, submittals, field changes, redline drawings, equipment documentation, inspection records, progress reports, quantity tracking, and turnover documentation.
- Provide day-to-day support to field supervision and project management by helping resolve technical and coordination issues that could impact safety, quality, productivity, cost, or schedule.
- Participate in field walks and project safety activities and support the safe execution of mechanical and electrical construction activities.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering/Management, or a related technical discipline.
- Previous experience in a Project Coordinator, Field Coordinator, Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or similar construction role, preferably supporting mechanical and/or electrical scopes.
- Practical understanding of mechanical and/or electrical construction, with exposure to areas such as process equipment, piping, pumps, valves, electrical distribution, instrumentation, controls, or related industrial systems considered an asset.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, technical documents, and vendor information.
- Experience supporting RFIs, technical submittals, shop drawings, procurement, material tracking, change management, or other construction documentation.
- Previous experience working with mechanical/electrical subcontractors, suppliers, field supervision, engineering, or commissioning teams is considered an asset.
- Experience in water/wastewater treatment facilities, industrial construction, process facilities, utilities, heavy civil infrastructure, or other multidisciplinary construction environments is considered an asset.
- Exposure to equipment installation, system testing, commissioning, or project turnover is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple technical deliverables, follow up on outstanding items, and prioritize work in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively between field personnel, engineering, subcontractors, suppliers, Quality, and project management.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Experience with construction/project management software and document management systems is considered an asset.
- A hands-on approach and willingness to spend time in the field understanding construction activities, identifying constraints, and supporting field teams.
- Ability to take initiative, identify potential issues, and work collaboratively with the project team to develop practical solutions.
- Commitment to working safely and supporting a strong safety culture on site.
