At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Job Description

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Test Technician to execute testing on aerospace hardware and to help shape how that testing gets done. This role is for a hands-on technician who wants more than a work order to follow. You will join early, during development and qualification, learning the hardware, the tests, and the equipment alongside the engineers defining them, and you will have real influence over the procedures that you and your peers will run for years afterward.

Responsibilities:

- Execute development, qualification, and production test procedures on flight and non-flight hardware, following the written procedure exactly and documenting what actually happened.

- Set up and break down test configurations, including harness installation, instrumentation, fixturing, and chamber loading and unloading.

- Operate environmental test equipment under procedure, including thermal chambers, vibration tables, and vacuum chambers.

- Perform electrical test and checkout, including continuity, isolation, dielectric withstand, and powered functional tests.

- Handle flight hardware under ESD and contamination control, including clean room protocol where required.

- Record test data and complete work order buyoffs accurately and as the work happens, not afterward.

- Identify and report anomalies immediately, stop work when required, and support troubleshooting alongside test engineering.

- Redline procedures during execution and drive the resulting updates with test engineering so the next person does not hit the same problem.

- Propose and implement improvements to test setup, tooling, sequence, and layout to reduce cycle time, rework, and setup error.

- Verify tool and instrument calibration before use, and record calibration identifiers and due dates in the work order.

- Maintain test stations and equipment, including routine checks, consumables, spares, and housekeeping.

- Support test station bring-up, checkout, and first-article test runs alongside engineering.

- Run, monitor, and eventually help develop automated test sequences, including triaging and reporting automation failures.

- Train and mentor other technicians as the team grows, including off-shift crews, and help build the training material they learn from.

- Maintain a safe, organized, and FOD-free work area, and follow all established safety controls.

- Other duties as assigned or otherwise beneficial to fulfilling the mission and vision.

This position is based in Kent, WA, with travel to other Blue Origin production and test sites as production ramps.

Minimum Qualifications:

- High school diploma or GED.

- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a test, integration, electronics, or electromechanical technician.

- Demonstrated ability to execute written procedures and work orders exactly, and to document results completely and legibly.

- Experience with electrical test equipment, including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and continuity or harness testers.

- Experience handling ESD-sensitive electronic assemblies and following ESD controls.

- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and from-to lists.

- Experience with hand tools and calibrated torque tools, and an understanding of why calibration status matters.

- Willingness to speak up when a procedure is wrong, unclear, or unsafe, and to propose a better way.

- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

- Ability to work off-shift, extended hours, overtime, and weekends if and when necessary.

- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

- IPC J-STD-001 certification, including the GS Space Addendum.

- IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.

- NASA-STD-8739.4 crimping, cable, and harness certification.

- Environmental test experience, including thermal cycling, vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, EMI/EMC, or burn-in.

- Experience on satellite, spacecraft, launch vehicle, aircraft, or defense electronics hardware.

- Clean room experience, including gowning protocol and contamination control.

- High voltage test experience and the safety practices that go with it.

- Military electronics, avionics, submarine, or nuclear technician background.

- Experience running automated test stations, including recipe or sequence editing and basic scripting.

- Experience with work order and manufacturing execution systems, such as Jules, Windchill, or SAP.

- Experience writing or redlining procedures that other technicians then worked from.

- Experience training or leading other technicians.

- Experience in a production environment that increased rate, and a view on what made test faster or slower.

- Lean, 5S, or continuous improvement participation.

- Associate degree or technical certificate in electronics, mechatronics, or a related field.

Physical Requirements:

This role is performed in a laboratory and production environment.

- Stand and walk for extended periods on a laboratory or production floor.

- Lift and carry up to 35 pounds unassisted, and more with assistance or lifting equipment.

- Bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and work in confined or restricted-access spaces.

- Work on ladders and elevated work platforms.

- Distinguish colors for wire, connector, and component identification.

- Perform detailed work requiring fine motor control and close visual focus.

- Wear personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, ESD garments, and clean room garments.

- Work in proximity to high voltage, pressurized systems, chambers, and operating machinery under established safety controls.
