About this role

Tesla is seeking a Renewable Energy Origination Lead to join its Corporate Development team to originate, negotiate, and execute the purchase of renewable energy across all global markets where Tesla is active. The scope for this position is global and the preferred location for this position is in Tesla’s office in Austin, though other office locations may be considered for the right candidate.

The Origination Lead will be expected to lead commercial negotiations, develop fundamental models of industry trends, interface with renewable energy developers, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to execute on a company-wide renewable energy strategy. The role is highly dynamic, and growth opportunities include global engagement, complex deal negotiation, and strategic partnership development.

- Lead origination, commercial negotiation, and execution of renewable energy Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) across North America, Europe, and Asia
- Develop and execute global offtake strategies aligned with Tesla’s sustainability targets, including budget, approvals, and stakeholder education
- Provide detailed fundamental market analysis to support energy procurement decisions
- Develop expert local market knowledge on energy markets, including supply and demand dynamics and energy pricing
- Partner with internal automation teams to streamline portfolio management functions.
- Report on the financial performance of our Renewable Energy PPA Portfolio identifying impacts to business units
- Own PPA portfolio management activities, including financial settlements and tracking/retiring Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) across the global portfolio
- Collaborate with finance, legal, sustainability, accounting, and business teams

- Fundamental understanding of global energy trends impacting renewable energy markets
- 5–10+ years of utility-scale renewable energy origination, PPA negotiation, or related experience in energy markets, investment banking, or consulting
- Advanced knowledge of PPA structures, Renewable Energy Credits, capacity/Resource Adequacy products, and corporate offtake
- Comfort with ambiguity and a first-principles approach to solving complex market problems
- Strong understanding of wholesale electricity market dynamics, project economics, financial modeling, and the interplay between offtake terms and project returns
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
