Opportunity Overview

The Director, Software Engineering leads the Power Test Division’s global software organization and is accountable for the execution, quality, and technical direction of the software that supports PTD platforms, test program development environments, instrument control, and customer-facing tools. This leader will unify teams across Deer Park, Costa Rica, India, Geneva, and Regensburg; strengthen delivery predictability; and accelerate platform reuse and convergence. Working closely with Product Architecture, Hardware Engineering, Factory Applications, Product Marketing, customers, and Semi Test Group peers, the Director will translate business priorities into credible software commitments and measurable outcomes.

- Lead a globally distributed software organization through four managers, including staffing plans, skills development, career paths, retention, and the balance of employee and contract resources.

- Develop and execute the PTD software roadmap, approve program sizing, staffing plans, and schedule baselines, and remain accountable for delivery quality and commitments.

- Collaborate with Product Architecture and engineering partners to define software architecture direction, evaluate feasibility early, surface risk continuously, and resolve design or schedule issues.

- Build a strong, independent Software QA function and improve engineering quality through modern architecture, code quality, automated testing, continuous integration, release management, and reduced technical debt.

- Partner with customers and cross-functional leaders on software capability, roadmap priorities, escalations, platform strategy, and engineering practices.

- Mentor managers and engineers while building a unified organization with shared processes, tooling, career development, and cross-segment collaboration.

- Sustain measurable AI-assisted development adoption through effective tooling, practices, guardrails, practitioner communities, and demonstrated productivity gains.

- Ensure inherited program commitments are delivered, software delivery becomes more predictable, and phase-gate performance and defect escape rates improve.
