About the Role:
Northern Kentucky University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Philosophy, beginning August 2027. The successful candidate will contribute to NKU's mission of delivering innovative, student-centered education and will support the Philosophy program's commitment to critical thinking, ethical reasoning, civic engagement, and student success. This position combines excellence in undergraduate teaching with leadership of an ethics center dedicated to ethical inquiry, public engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community partnership.
Primary Responsibilities
Teaching and Student Success : Teach undergraduate philosophy courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats; advise and mentor students; participate in assessment, curriculum development, recruitment, retention, and co-curricular programming.
Center Leadership and Community Engagement : Provide strategic leadership for the Center for Applied Ethics; develop partnerships with community organizations, businesses, healthcare institutions, schools, and government agencies; organize lectures, workshops, forums, and public programs; foster experiential learning opportunities; pursue grants and external funding; and represent NKU in regional and national conversations on ethics and civic responsibility. The Director will be expected to develop a sustainable revenue model for the Center through grants, gifts, sponsorships, and community partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Philosophy or a closely related field by the start date. Demonstrated commitment to effective undergraduate teaching and student success.

Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Philosophy. Evidence of successful college-level teaching. Experience teaching ethics and applied philosophy courses, including Philosophy and AI, Philosophy of Technology, Information Ethics, Professional Ethics, or related areas. Experience with community engagement, partnership development, center leadership, grant activity, public programming, or applied ethics initiatives.
