The Role
The Varsity Girls Soccer program is seeking an Assistant Coach to develop our goalkeepers. You'll work alongside the head coach to run training sessions, support game-day operations, and build a goalkeeping culture that is technical, confident, and resilient. You'll be the primary point person for our keepers while contributing to the team as a whole.
Responsibilities
- Design and run goalkeeper-specific training, including shot-stopping, footwork, positioning, distribution, crosses, 1v1s, and communication
- Coach goalkeepers during matches and provide feedback before, during, and after games
- Support the head coach with practice planning, team training, scouting, and game-day logistics
- Help develop a pipeline of keepers across the program, including JV and any returning or developing players
- Track goalkeeper performance and share constructive feedback with players
- Model sportsmanship, respect, and positive communication with players, families, officials, and opposing teams
- Follow school, league, and CIF Southern Section policies, including safety, communication, and student-athlete welfare protocols
- Engage robustly in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion to promote a healthy learning environment;
- Willingness to take on other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Experience playing or coaching goalkeeper at the high school, club, collegiate, or professional level
- Strong knowledge of modern goalkeeping technique and training methods
- Ability to connect with and motivate high school student-athletes
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A coaching license or certification (such as a goalkeeping or NSCAA/United Soccer Coaches credential) is preferred, not required
- Must complete required background screening and pre-hire requirements, and hold or obtain current CPR/First Aid certification and any mandated coach education [confirm requirements]
- Demonstrated experience creating inclusive learning environments and opportunities
