About this role
The Paediatric Endocrinology Unit of Vall d’Hebron University Hospital is a tertiary referral unit covering the whole spectrum of paediatric endocrine disease, and works closely with the Growth and Development research group of the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). The Unit runs an active portfolio of clinical trials in paediatric endocrinology, with a particular focus on growth disorders, obesity and metabolic disease in children and adolescents.
We are seeking a Clinical Researcher for a paediatrician position with hospital clinical experience and a background in clinical trials to join the Unit on a part-time basis (16 h/week) as a clinical research physician. The successful candidate will run trial visits and protocol-driven assessments in close collaboration with the principal investigators, the study coordinators and the hospital’s Clinical Trials Unit.
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Conduct of clinical trial visits in paediatric endocrinology (screening, inclusion, follow-up and end of study) under the supervision of the principal investigator.
- Assessment of eligibility criteria and management of the informed consent and assent process with patients and their legal guardians.
- Protocol-driven clinical assessments, recording and reporting of adverse events, and review of concomitant medication.
- Source data documentation, eCRF completion and resolution of queries.
- Coordination with sponsors, CRO monitors, Hospital Pharmacy and the Clinical Trials Unit, including support during monitoring visits and audits.
- Support to the investigator-initiated research of the Growth and Development group: protocol drafting, data collection and contribution to abstracts and publications.
- Clinical and research follow-up of the endocrine complications of paediatric cystic fibrosis (CF-related diabetes, bone disease and growth), in coordination with the Cystic Fibrosis Clinical Unit.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
- Holds a degree in Medicine
- Completion of specialist training (MIR)
- Registration with a Spanish Col·legi / Colegio Oficial de Metges – Médicos.
- Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) certification, or commitment to obtain it before the start of the contract.
- Languages: Spanish, English (business level).
Desirable:
- Catalan basic.
- (Formació complementària) Master’s degree or postgraduate training in Paediatric Endocrinology.
- Postgraduate training in clinical research methodology, biostatistics or pharmacovigilance.
- Experience in clinical research at a 3rd level hospital.

Relevant clinical experience as a medically qualified professional.
- Experience in participation in research lines and/or projects.
- More than 5 years of clinical experience in hospital paediatrics.
- Demonstrable experience in the clinical care of paediatric patients with cystic fibrosis.
- Scientific production in the field of paediatric cystic fibrosis: peer-reviewed publications and/or communications to national or international scientific meetings.
- Demonstrable experience as investigator or sub-investigator in clinical trials in paediatric endocrinology.
- Working knowledge of the regulatory framework for clinical trials in the paediatric population, including informed consent and assent procedures with minors and their legal guardians.

Desirable:
- Experience in the management of the endocrine complications of cystic fibrosis (CF-related diabetes, bone disease and growth impairment).
- Experience in clinical trials in cystic fibrosis, including CFTR modulator studies.
- Participation in cystic fibrosis patient registries or in multicentre cystic fibrosis research networks.
- Experience in trials in paediatric obesity, growth disorders or diabetes.
- Familiarity with eCRF / EDC platforms and with source data documentation.
- Knowledge of statistical tools (Excel, SPSS, R).
- Skills of communication, responsibility and teamwork.
Labour conditions:
- Working hours : Part-time (16 hours per week).
- Starting date : As soon as possible.
- Gross annual salary : Remuneration will be determined by experience, skills and responsibilities and aligned with the Collective Agreement pay scale.
- Contract type : Technical and scientific activities contract linked to project activities.
