Program Description Emergency Behavioral Health

WellSpan’s Emergency Behavioral Health (EBH) Program provides comprehensive behavioral health assessment, crisis intervention, care coordination, and disposition planning services for individuals presenting to WellSpan Emergency Departments with behavioral health needs. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week across multiple acute care hospital sites, the program supports children, adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing psychiatric crises, substance use concerns, emotional distress, or other behavioral health emergencies. Master level behavioral health clinicians conduct assessments, determine the most appropriate level of care, facilitate admissions and referrals, develop safety plans, coordinate with families and community providers, and assist with transitions to ongoing treatment and support services. Through close collaboration with Emergency Department staff, hospital leadership, community agencies, and behavioral health providers, the EBH Program promotes timely access to care, enhances patient safety, improves care coordination, and supports positive patient outcomes throughout the continuum of behavioral health services.
