Department Summary

RAVN Aerospace’s Maintenance Department supports the safety, airworthiness, reliability, and operational readiness of the company’s aircraft fleet. The department performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, and component replacement in support of flight operations and mission requirements.

Position Summary

The Aircraft Mechanic – Avionics performs inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, installation, and operational testing of aircraft avionics, electrical, and electronic systems. This position supports scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance and works closely with maintenance and flight operations personnel to identify and correct discrepancies while maintaining aircraft availability and mission readiness.

The ideal candidate has strong electrical and avionics troubleshooting skills, experience interpreting aircraft wiring diagrams and technical publications, and the ability to safely perform maintenance in a fast-paced military or tactical aviation environment.

Key Responsibilities

Avionics and Electrical Maintenance

- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, remove, replace, and install aircraft avionics, electrical, electronic, communication, navigation, and associated systems and components.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled avionics maintenance in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals, technical publications, engineering instructions, and approved maintenance procedures.
- Diagnose avionics and electrical discrepancies using aircraft wiring diagrams, schematics, troubleshooting procedures, maintenance manuals, and applicable technical data.
- Repair and replace aircraft wiring, wiring harnesses, connectors, terminals, circuit protection devices, and associated electrical components.
- Perform continuity, resistance, voltage, insulation, and other electrical checks using appropriate calibrated test equipment.
- Remove, install, inspect, and test avionics components, line-replaceable units (LRUs), instruments, antennas, sensors, control panels, and associated equipment.
- Perform operational checks and functional testing following maintenance, repair, installation, or component replacement.
- Troubleshoot discrepancies reported by pilots or maintenance personnel or identified during inspections; perform corrective actions within assigned qualifications and maintenance authorization.
- Assist with avionics modifications, upgrades, installations, and aircraft configuration changes as required.

Aircraft Maintenance and Operational Support

- Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft systems, components, and assemblies within the scope of assigned qualifications and responsibilities.
- Assemble and install electrical, avionics, mechanical, and associated aircraft components using appropriate hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
- Remove and install aircraft components and perform required operational or functional tests in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals.
- Support aircraft launch, recovery, pre-flight, post-flight, and flight-line maintenance activities as assigned.
- Coordinate with aircraft mechanics, pilots, maintenance leadership, engineering personnel, and other departments to resolve discrepancies and minimize aircraft downtime.
- Support aircraft-on-ground (AOG) and other time-sensitive maintenance requirements to maintain fleet availability and mission readiness.
- Perform inspections and corrective maintenance on assigned ground support and aircraft support equipment.
- Maintain tools, test equipment, and assigned work areas in a safe, clean, organized, and serviceable condition.

Documentation Quality and Compliance

- Maintain accurate and complete maintenance records documenting inspections, discrepancies, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, modifications, component changes, and operational checks.
- Complete aircraft maintenance documentation in accordance with company procedures and applicable FAA, military, customer, and contractual requirements.
- Refer to maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, technical orders, workbooks, and other approved technical publications to determine maintenance and installation requirements.
- Ensure tools and test equipment are appropriate, serviceable, and within required calibration intervals.
- Participate in quality assurance inspections and audits and correct identified discrepancies as required.
- Follow applicable company, OSHA, FAA, customer, environmental, foreign object damage (FOD) prevention, tool-control, and safety requirements.
- Protect proprietary, classified, export-controlled, and other sensitive information in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Assist with development and continuous improvement of maintenance procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), troubleshooting practices, and maintenance processes.
- Coordinate with Supply and Procurement personnel to identify and obtain avionics components, wiring materials, connectors, consumables, and other required parts.

Requirements

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Relevant aircraft maintenance experience with an emphasis on avionics, electrical, electronic, or aircraft systems.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting, repairing, removing, installing, and testing aircraft avionics and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret aircraft wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, maintenance manuals, technical orders, engineering drawings, and other technical publications.
- Working knowledge of aircraft electrical principles, wiring practices, connectors, grounding, bonding, circuit protection, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Experience using multimeters and other electrical or avionics test equipment.
- Ability to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in a flight-line, hangar, or operational aviation environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple maintenance priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic maintenance or aircraft tracking systems.
- Ability to comply with applicable safety, quality, documentation, security, and regulatory requirements.
- Must have or have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Desired Experience and Skills

- FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate.
- Prior military aviation maintenance experience.
- Experience maintaining military, tactical, high-performance, or special-mission aircraft.
- Experience troubleshooting aircraft communication, navigation, instrumentation, flight-control, electrical power, and other avionics systems.
- Experience repairing aircraft wiring, wiring harnesses, connectors, and electrical installations.
- Experience performing avionics modifications, upgrades, installations, or system integration.
- Familiarity with aircraft data buses, digital avionics, integrated avionics systems, and aircraft networking.
- Experience with maintenance tracking software and electronic maintenance documentation systems.
- Proven ability to diagnose complex aircraft electrical and avionics discrepancies and determine effective corrective actions.
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
- Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to make sound maintenance decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Support Equipment Operator License or demonstrated ability to qualify on applicable equipment, including Tow Tractor, N2 Servicing Trailer, and Mobile Start Unit.

Physical Demands

- Regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, and kneeling while working in aircraft hangars, on flight lines, and in confined aircraft spaces.
- Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and components weighing up to 50 pounds independently and safely handle heavier items using team lifting or approved equipment.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and test equipment and perform precise wiring and component work.
- Possible exposure to aircraft noise, outdoor weather, dust, oils, fuels, fumes, and other typical aviation conditions; required PPE and safety equipment must be used.
- Regular use of computers and other standard office equipment.
- Periodic overtime, schedule adjustments, domestic travel, or OCONUS travel may be required to support AOG and operational needs.
- Other duties as assigned.

Work Authorization

- Must be a U.S. citizen to support access to export-controlled information, security-clearance eligibility, or other applicable program requirements.
- Must be lawfully eligible to work in the United States and complete an I-9 Form.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances, airport credentials, and site-access credentials as required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and meet company driving requirements.
