Position Information

Position Overview

This is a non-management software development role focused on designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing HealthStream products. Working closely with experienced engineers, technical specialists, and senior developers, you will help define requirements, design and implement new features, and deliver high-quality software solutions. The role provides opportunities to lead small to medium-sized projects or workstreams under the guidance of senior developers while developing technical and cross-functional collaboration skills.

This role is located in Nashville, TN and requires 3 days a week in our Capitol View Office.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for adhering to all HealthStream security policies, procedures, and assigned training.

Operational/Troubleshooting

- Development and Troubleshooting skills

- Using a code debugger

- Identifying trouble area (Code/Server config/DB)

- Understanding of CI/CD and code deployment patterns

- Use of Integrated Development Environments

- Working knowledge of Source Control system concepts

- Effectively leverage AI tooling on a regular basis to enhance quality and personal throughput

- Working knowledge of relational databases

- Trace most defects/functionality back to the related source code.

- Determine scope of impact of changes made to the codebase.

- Participate in standard processes such as code deployments

- Collaborate with Quality Assurance on appropriate use case and test case development

Communication

- Translate technical aspects of work to non-technical co-workers

- Contribute clear and concise solution documentation

Leadership

- Actively participate in group discussions on technical implementation and solution design

Qualifications

Requirements

- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (any discipline), or closely related field of study is preferred.

- At least 2.5 years of experience as a Developer, Consultant, Software Engineer, or in a closely related role, with hands-on experience in software development and exposure to full-stack application development.

- Proficient in .NET (C#, ASP.NET Core) for building APIs and microservices, with experience in web technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.

- Working knowledge of MySQL, including writing queries and understanding relational database concepts; proficient in SQL querying and performance tuning; working knowledge of application-level database interfaces.

- Demonstrated knowledge of DevOps best practices, including CI/CD, automation, code deployment patterns, and associated development practices.

- Experience with cloud providers such as AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and Lambda, with demonstrated knowledge of cloud technologies and monitoring platforms.

- Experienced with version control tools such as Git and participation in Agile development methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.

- Understanding of web security fundamentals, including API authentication and CORS.

- Knowledge of AI-powered development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI), including experience with AI-assisted coding, code generation, and prompt engineering.

- Previous work with other databases or frontend libraries is a plus.

- Strong communication skills, including technical writing ability.

- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn and adapt in a team environment.

- Ability to work in person at the Nashville Office three (3) days per week.

Qualifications

- Ability to communicate clearly to team members both verbally and in written form

- Work individually and as part of a team

- Learn via self-directed courseware as well as mentoring from peers/senior staff

- A solid grasp on the functionality of the products maintained by the team and a cursory knowledge of all products within the product family

- Exhibit appropriate attention to time management, professional conduct and adherence to corporate policies

Compensation

- The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $102,000. Salary will be determined by the candidates level of experience and qualifications. Compensation will be commensurate with skills, relevant experience, and performance in similar roles.
