About this role
Transcend is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mental Health Medical Biller to manage and oversee our behavioral health billing operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience navigating the complexities of mental health insurance billing, claims processing, and reimbursement management.
In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining the financial health of our practice by ensuring timely, accurate claims submission, resolving billing issues, and delivering compassionate communication when addressing patient inquiries.
Key Responsibilities
- Claims Processing & Submission: Prepare, verify, and submit primary and secondary insurance claims for mental health services (e.g., individual/group therapy, psychiatric evaluations, medication management) using standard CPT, ICD-10, and DSM-5 coding.
- Insurance Verification & Authorizations: Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and secure required prior authorizations from third-party payers.
- Denials & Appeals Management: Investigate, appeal, and resolve unpaid, delayed, or denied claims in a timely manner.
- Patient Accounts & Collections: Generate monthly patient statements, post insurance and patient payments, set up payment plans, and respond professionally to patient billing inquiries.
- Compliance & Auditing: Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA regulations, payer guidelines, and billing compliance standards.
- Financial Reporting: Maintain accurate records and perform routine billing audits and account reconciliations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of medical billing experience (Required).
- Specialty Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience specifically in mental/behavioral health billing (Required).
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and billing software.
- Knowledge: Expert understanding of mental health CPT codes, ICD-10 coding, modifier usage, and payer pre-authorization requirements.
- Soft Skills: Excellent organizational abilities, high attention to detail, and compassionate patient communication skills.
Salary $20.00 – $23.00+ / hour ($42,000 – $48,000 annually), commensurate with experience
