Resident Coordinator (Office of Residence Life)

The Division of Student Affairs supports students’ social, personal, and emotional development and promotes intellectual and ethical growth through programs, initiatives, clubs, leadership opportunities, and community engagement. The Division comprises six subgroups: (1) Transition and Retention; (2) Student Health, Wellness, and Inclusion; (3) Leadership and Engagement; (4) Career Exploration and Professional Development; (5) Varsity Athletics, Intramurals, and the APEX; and (6) Housing and Residence Life. The Division reports to the President.

The  Resident Coordinator  is a live-in professional staff position within the Office of Residence Life and reports directly to the Director of Residence Life. The Resident Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily operation of the residence hall, supervising student staff, fostering a safe and inclusive residential community, and responding to student needs and emergencies.

Primary Responsibilities

- Train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistant (RA) staff, including monitoring duty schedules, approving required training and professional development, and providing ongoing supervision and support.
- Maintain regular office hours and ensure consistent accessibility to residents, families, student staff, and professional colleagues.
- Oversee residence hall operations, including room assignments and changes, Room Condition Reports (RCRs), health and safety inspections, fire drills, damage assessment, and billing processes.
- Coordinate residence hall opening and closing procedures at the beginning and end of each semester and during scheduled vacation periods.
- Participate in the professional staff on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and respond to emergencies, wellness checks, lockouts, housekeeping concerns, facilities issues, and other residential needs.
- Provide crisis intervention and emergency response support for physical and mental health concerns, behavioral incidents, and other emergencies in accordance with established protocols.
- Coordinate with Public Safety, Counseling Services, Health Services, facilities staff, emergency responders, and other campus partners as appropriate.
- Support students experiencing interpersonal conflicts, emotional distress, behavioral concerns, or other challenges through appropriate guidance, referrals, conflict resolution, and mediation.
- Investigate alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct and Residence Hall Handbook and, when authorized, adjudicate lower-level conduct matters and assign appropriate educational or disciplinary sanctions.
- Collaborate with Public Safety and other campus partners to promote a safe, secure, welcoming, and inclusive residential environment.
- Develop and implement programs and initiatives that promote student engagement, well-being, leadership, community building, and a strong sense of belonging.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student concerns, incidents, conduct matters, facilities issues, and residence hall operations.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training, assessment, emergency preparedness, and other initiatives of the Office of Residence Life.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Due to the nature of the position and the need for professional staff presence and accessibility within the residence hall, the Resident Coordinator must maintain a flexible schedule that includes evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Residence within the residence hall is required and will be provided by the Office of Residence Life. Travel may occasionally be required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Four (4) years of related professional experience in higher education, student affairs, residence life, housing, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, College Student Personnel, or a related field.
- Two to four years of progressively responsible professional experience in residence life, housing, student affairs, or a related area.
- Demonstrated knowledge of student personnel administration, residential program management, student development, group and organizational dynamics, and crisis response.
- Experience supervising student staff and managing residential community operations.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and foster an inclusive residential community.

Pay Range:

Minimum - Maximum: $50,000–$60,000
