Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector is seeking a Systems Engineer -Level 4 to serve as a Deputy Lead Systems Engineer for a satellite mission program in Gilbert, Arizona.
The Deputy Lead Systems Engineer will assist in leading the space segment technical team and coordinating systems engineering activities across a multidisciplinary organization. The role encompasses systems analysis and trade studies, engineering baseline and interface management, requirements and verification and validation (V&V) management, integration and test campaign development and execution, subcontractor technical oversight, Control Account Manager (CAM) duties, and preparation and presentation of Systems Engineering content at major technical reviews and Program Management Reviews (PMRs).
This position combines technical individual-contributor responsibilities with engineering leadership. The successful candidate may also support architecture studies, mission activities, and traditional Systems Engineering functions. The Lead Systems Engineer is expected to work independently, apply prior experience to direct design, analysis, integration, and execution efforts, and proactively identify and mitigate space segment technical issues and risks while operating within established budget and schedule constraints.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in leading/providing major support to the entire space segment technical team
- Coordinate and optimize space vehicle design, processing and mission success
- Troubleshoot and develop solutions to complex problems that the program may encounter
- Develop, author and/or provide input to major program data products and other deliverables
- Technical management of program elements
- Plan and conduct of technical reviews and technical baseline
- Write status and technical performance reviews and reports
- Mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise junior staff
- Must be able to recognize and mitigate technical issues and risks while operating within budget and on schedule
- The candidate will work with cross-discipline team members and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the program team
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) with 8+ years of relevant experience OR Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with 6+ years of relevant experience OR PhD in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with 4+ years of relevant experience
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and have an active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance and ability to obtain SCI clearance at time of application and prior to start date. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to the candidate’s maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
- Technical experience in systems engineering and integration of complex systems, including space systems development, manufacture, test or operations, including previous technical or project leadership positions
- Understanding of spacecraft detailed design, integration & test
- Must be proactive. Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions
- Ability to lead a diverse multi-discipline Engineering team
P referred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with 6+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in system architecture & CONOPs development
- Active U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI security clearance and prior to start date. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to the candidate’s maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
