Job Summary
The Facilities Technician is a hands-on maintenance position responsible for supporting daily facility repairs, preventive maintenance, building upkeep, and small improvement projects across the plant, warehouse, and office areas.
This role is a mix between an entry-level and intermediate facilities technician. The employee should be able to complete basic maintenance tasks independently, assist with more complex repairs, and continue developing skills in plumbing, HVAC, welding, fabrication, carpentry, dock repairs, and general mechanical work.
The position requires physical, hands-on work, including lifting, climbing, bending, carrying tools/materials, and working in different facility environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete facility work orders safely, efficiently, and professionally while maintaining compliance with GMP policies and company procedures.
- Perform hands-on building repairs, including painting, patching walls, drywall repairs, doors, trim, ceiling tiles, and general facility upkeep.
- Assist with or complete plumbing repairs such as toilet clogs, drain issues, faucet repairs, flush valves, leaks, hose bibs, traps, and minor piping repairs.
- Build and install shelves, workstations, guards, brackets, small rooms, storage areas, and other facility improvements.
- Assist with welding, cutting, grinding, fabrication, and installation of stainless or mild steel components.
- Replace and repair dock brushes, dock seals, bumpers, door hardware, and other warehouse/dock components.
- Perform preventive maintenance on facility equipment, HVAC units, exhaust fans, doors, dock equipment, pumps, motors, and general building systems.
- Assist with HVAC work such as filter changes, belt replacement, coil cleaning, drain clearing, basic troubleshooting, and motor replacement under proper guidance.
- Support basic mechanical repairs on fans, pumps, belts, bearings, valves, compressors, boilers, and utility systems as assigned.
- Support shutdown work, project work, contractor work, and emergency repairs as needed.
- Maintain clean and organized shops, mechanical rooms, storage areas, rooftops, dock areas, and work zones.
- Identify repair needs, safety concerns, and equipment issues, then communicate them to the Facilities Supervisor or Manager.
- Accurately document work performed, parts used, labor time, and follow-up needs in the work order system.
- Follow all company safety rules, including PPE, lockout/tagout, hot work permits, ladder safety, lift safety, and fall protection requirements.
- Assist higher-level technicians, supervisors, contractors, and vendors with more advanced repairs and installations.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Hands-on maintenance, repair, construction, or mechanical experience preferred.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and shop equipment.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, painting, carpentry, fabrication, HVAC, dock equipment, and general facility repairs.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic facility issues and determine when to escalate.
- Ability to follow instructions, complete assigned work, and communicate clearly with supervisors and team members.
- Must be dependable, safety-focused, and willing to work in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
- Ability to read basic measurements, sketches, layouts, and work instructions.
- Welding, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical experience is a plus but not required.
- Forklift, scissor lift, or boom lift experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- This is a hands-on, physically demanding position.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Must be able to push, pull, bend, kneel, crawl, climb, reach, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Must be able to work from ladders, scissor lifts, rooftops, dock areas, mechanical rooms, and production areas.
- Must be able to carry tools, parts, ladders, materials, and maintenance equipment as needed.
- Must be able to work in hot, cold, wet, noisy, dusty, or confined areas depending on the job.
- Must be able to perform manual labor and hands-on repair work throughout the shift.
Experience Level
- 1–4 years of facilities maintenance, industrial maintenance, construction, mechanical repair, plumbing, HVAC, welding, or related hands-on experience preferred.
- Candidates with strong mechanical ability and willingness to learn may be considered.
- Manufacturing or warehouse experience preferred.
Work Environment
This position works in a manufacturing, warehouse, and office facility environment. Work may take place in production areas, mechanical rooms, rooftops, dock areas, restrooms, utility rooms, outdoor areas, and shop spaces. The technician may be exposed to noise, temperature changes, wet floors, dust, heights, moving equipment, and other industrial conditions.
