About this role
The Customer Onboarding Platform owns the end-to-end applicant journey. From a customer's first application through approval to an active PayJoy product. As the orchestration layer across many standalone backend systems (identity verification, credit decisioning, device provisioning), the platform sits at the center of the company's growth funnel. This role requires strong cross-team coordination, the judgment to balance conversion, risk, and reliability, and the ability to set technical direction across system boundaries you don't directly own.
The Senior Engineering Manager is responsible for providing technical guidance and aligning engineering efforts with product and business stakeholders to deliver high impact products and features. Additionally, responsible for team growth planning, assisting with hiring, mentoring, and providing feedback to engineers on their performance in order to help remove technical or administrative obstacles that impede task completion.

- Drive technical excellence: Establish and maintain high standards for software architecture, code quality, testing, security, observability, and engineering practices across payment integrations and financial infrastructure.
- Own operational reliability: Ensure services are highly available and resilient by driving effective incident management, healthy on-call practices, post-incident reviews, and continuous reliability improvements.
- Shape the engineering roadmap: Partner with Product and engineering leadership to define priorities, plan projects, establish OKRs, and balance feature delivery with technical debt, infrastructure investments, and system health.
- Enable financial infrastructure at scale: Work with Risk, Compliance, Finance, payment processors, and card issuers to deliver secure, compliant, and cost-efficient solutions across markets.
- Improve engineering effectiveness: Evaluate team processes, remove technical and organizational blockers, and introduce practices that improve delivery speed, quality, and predictability.
