Position Description
EIP is seeking a Director of Finance to lead its accounting team and serve as a hands-on financial partner to the CEO and operating leaders. The role combines controllership with forward-looking financial management for a growing, multi-program services company. The director will ensure accurate books and timely reporting, explain performance at both company and program levels, strengthen pricing and forecasting, and lead efforts to secure financing that supports EIP’s growth.
This leader will connect accounting results to operating decisions. They will work with program managers to understand revenue recognition, billing milestones, direct labor and subcontractor costs, margins, receivables, and cash timing; with business development to price new work; and with leadership and lenders to translate contracts and forecasts into a credible capital plan.
The ideal candidate is a strong controller or finance leader who can manage a team and close the books accurately while also building useful analyses and moving financing opportunities forward. This is a working leadership role suited to someone who enjoys improving systems, partnering across functions, and making financial information actionable.
Objectives of this Role
- Reliable Financial Reporting: Produce timely, accurate company and program financial statements with clear explanations of variances and risks.
- Cash and Working Capital: Provide forward-looking cash visibility and strengthen billing, collections, payables planning, and liquidity management.
- Program Profitability: Give program managers and leadership a consistent view of revenue, direct costs, labor utilization, gross margin, and forecast-to-complete.
- Disciplined Pricing: Improve proposal and contract pricing so expected costs, working capital needs, risk, and target margin are understood before commitments are made.
- Growth Financing: Develop financing strategies and lead the information, lender engagement, and diligence needed to obtain appropriate capital.
- Strong Finance Team and Controls: Develop the accounting staff, improve processes and systems, and maintain dependable financial controls as EIP grows.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
- Lead Accounting Operations: Manage and develop the accounting contractor and oversee the general ledger, monthly close, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, payroll coordination, and accurate project coding.
- Maintain Financial Statements: Prepare and review monthly income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, and supporting schedules; resolve errors and explain major changes.
- Analyze Program Performance: Report revenue, COGS, gross margin, overhead allocation, labor utilization, and actual-to-budget results by program; investigate variances with program leaders and identify corrective actions.
- Manage Revenue and Billing: Track contract terms, deliverables, invoicing milestones, unbilled revenue, receivables, and collections; align accrual reporting with billing and cash timing.
- Forecast Cash: Maintain a near-term cash forecast and a longer-range operating and financing model that reflects program starts, contract billing, payroll, subcontractors, overhead, debt service, and scenarios.
- Guide Budgets and Forecasts: Lead the annual budget, rolling forecasts, and program-level updates; translate expected awards, staffing plans, and delivery assumptions into financial projections.
- Review Pricing and Proposals: Partner with business development and operations on cost estimates, labor and fringe rates, subcontractor costs, overhead, cash needs, contract terms, margin, and pricing sensitivity.
- Lead Financing Efforts: Evaluate lines of credit, contract-backed financing, CDFI loans, and other appropriate sources; prepare lender packages, coordinate outreach and diligence, compare terms, and drive approved transactions toward closing with the CEO.
- Manage Lender Relationships: Maintain current projections, covenant and debt schedules, borrowing-base or reporting requirements, and clear communication with banks and financing partners.
- Strengthen Controls and Systems: Improve approvals, documentation, project accounting, data integrity, and reporting workflows in NetSuite and related systems; work with operations to reduce manual reconciliation.
- Coordinate External Partners: Manage the finance work of external tax, audit, banking, insurance, and other advisers; ensure timely filings and required client or lender financial reporting.
- Advise Leadership: Present a concise monthly financial dashboard, key risks, and recommended actions on margin, cash, collections, pricing, staffing, and growth capacity.
Required Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and at least eight years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership of financial reporting and a team; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Controllership: Strong command of accrual accounting, monthly close, financial statements, internal controls, and project or contract accounting.
- Financial Analysis: Demonstrated ability to build forecasts and analyze company and project revenue, labor, direct costs, overhead, margins, and cash flow.
- Pricing and Business Partnership: Experience developing budgets or pricing models and explaining financial tradeoffs to operations and business development leaders.
- Financing: Experience preparing lender-ready financial information and supporting a credit facility, loan, refinancing, or comparable capital process.
- Leadership: Ability to set priorities, coach accounting staff, hold teams to deadlines, and work directly with senior leaders in a growing organization.
- Systems and Modeling: Advanced Excel modeling skills and experience with an accounting or ERP system; ability to improve data quality and reporting processes.
- Communication and Judgment: Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly, maintain confidentiality, and make sound recommendations under uncertainty.

- Contract Economics: Familiarity with labor utilization, subcontractor management, indirect cost allocation, and contract-level cash conversion.
