Job Title: Production Scheduler Job Description
The Production Scheduler plays a key role in ensuring smooth, efficient production operations at a facility that manufactures pressure sensors for commercial, military, and space applications. This position is responsible for executing and maintaining the short-term production schedule, aligning planned volumes and dates with business objectives such as inventory levels, cost control, and customer satisfaction. The Production Scheduler collaborates closely with operations, quality, engineering, customer service, and purchasing to manage work orders, optimize material flow, and drive on-time delivery performance. The role also supports continuous improvement initiatives and high-performance work teams while ensuring compliance with applicable contract requirements.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to and align production activities with the Master Production Schedule (MPS).
- Re-sequence and re-route production orders when capacity is constrained to minimize deviations from the MPS.
- Escalate execution issues when resolution timing does not allow adherence to the MPS.
- Manage shop floor scheduling and level-load work orders based on cell capacity.
- Manage work orders to ensure manufacturing always has appropriate work available, and communicate with operations when exceptions arise.
- Direct daily workflow and work in process (WIP) through analysis of reports and input from cross-functional teams.
- Align and set priorities for resources and shared resources across the factory to maximize efficiency and material flow and ensure customer on-time delivery.
- Expedite customer orders where possible, expedite material shortages with buyers, and communicate updates to customer service.
- Ensure work orders within assigned areas are current, not past due, and not held in pick status for extended periods.
- Support efforts to minimize past-due sales dollars, monitor and help resolve quality issues, and drive customer on-time delivery.
- Support high-performance work teams and remain flexible and capable of working in different environments as needed.
- Support plant continuous improvement initiatives related to production scheduling and materials management.
- Prepare reports and other correspondence for use by supply chain management professionals.
- Communicate regularly with cross-functional teams including Customer Service, Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Purchasing.
- Assist in the development and implementation of procedures and techniques that improve the scheduling function.
- Ensure compliance with applicable contract flow-down requirements such as FAR, DFAR, and ITAR.
- Contribute to production planning, material planning, and inventory management activities.
- Use ERP/MRP systems to manage schedules, work orders, and materials.
- Perform or support cycle counts and other inventory control activities related to production scheduling.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in supply chain or operations.
- Experience with production planning and production scheduling in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and production control, including work order management and material planning.
- Understanding of supply chain, inventory, and materials management principles.
- Ability to use ERP/MRP systems for scheduling, work orders, and inventory management.
- Proficient computer skills with solid knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization, including customers, marketing, engineering, quality, and manufacturing.
- Ability to quickly analyze information, identify opportunities, and implement improvements that have a measurable impact.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and take action to achieve results.
- Strong organizational skills for schedule planning, logistics coordination, and inventory management.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced production environment.
- Change management skills and the ability to support and adapt to evolving processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Three or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment or supply chain is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of industry practices related to complex machined materials management.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, with experience in MFG Pro considered a plus.
- Experience with production scheduling, production planning, and materials management in aerospace or similarly complex industries.
- Familiarity with contract flow-down requirements such as FAR, DFAR, and ITAR.
- Experience with cycle counts and other inventory control techniques.
- Strong skills in planning and scheduling, including capacity planning and level loading of work orders.
- Ability to prepare clear reports and correspondence for supply chain and operations leadership.
Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing facility that produces pressure sensors for commercial, military, and space applications. The Production Scheduler works closely with shop floor operations, quality, engineering, customer service, and purchasing, spending time both in office settings and in production areas. The environment involves the use of ERP/MRP systems, Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, and various reports and dashboards to manage schedules, work orders, and inventory. Standard business hours are typical, with occasional flexibility needed to address urgent scheduling or customer delivery requirements. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
