The Opportunity |Te kōwhiringa
We’re looking for a reliable and practical Cyclic Patrolperson to join our team across the Mokau and Taumarunui area. In this hands-on role, you’ll patrol designated roads, identify network defects and complete routine and emergency maintenance to help ensure the network remains safe for public use.
No two days will be exactly the same. You’ll be trusted to assess situations, make practical decisions and respond to both planned maintenance requirements and unexpected events.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Patrolling designated roads in line with the agreed schedule
- Completing routine pavement repairs, including pothole repairs
- Clearing vegetation, minor slips, fallen trees and other obstructions
- Cleaning and maintaining rural drainage systems, including sumps, culvert inlets and outlets
- Identifying, recording and reporting safety defects and maintenance requirements
- Providing traffic management support for operational activities
- Responding to urgent customer requests and road emergencies
- Completing daily reports, vehicle checks and plant pre-starts
- Liaising professionally with residents and other stakeholders
- Ensuring all work is completed safely and to the required standards
This position includes participation in an after-hours call-out roster and requires the ability to respond promptly to emergency situations with the appropriate equipment.

You’ll be someone who takes pride in doing a job properly and can be relied on to work safely and independently. You’ll be organised, observant and comfortable making practical decisions when circumstances change.
To be successful, you will bring:
- The ability to manage unexpected events and find practical solutions
- A systematic and organised approach to your work
- The confidence to work effectively with minimal supervision
- A current Class 2 driver licence , which is essential
- A Class 4 driver licence, or the willingness and ability to achieve one in the future, would be an advantage
- Experience or qualifications in identifying and rating roading faults would also be beneficial
