Reporting to the Operations Manager, The Manager - Mineral Resource Management (MRM) is responsible for the strategic planning, estimation, reconciliation, and optimal utilisation of mineral resources and ore reserves. This role ensures that resource and reserve models are accurate, compliant with reporting standards (e.g., JORC, SAMREC, or NI 43-101), and effectively integrated into short-, medium-, and long-term mine planning. The incumbent drives value maximisation from the orebody while ensuring responsible, efficient, and sustainable extraction aligned with the mine's overall business strategy.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following :
- Lead Lumwana Mineral Resource Management Department to achieve business plan adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Ensure adherence to all statutory requirements and Company Safety, Health and Environmental standards and procedures.
- Collaborate with planning and mining to ensure and optimize the life of mine (LOM) plan on a rolling basis and optimizing blends by maintaining a steady mine feed grade and tones thereby optimizing milling and plant performance to deliver on metal production targets.
- Understand and report on all geological risk and opportunities and highlight the impacts on mine plan.
- Ensure ROM stockpile levels to allow blending flexibility by optimizing RoM pad designs and stockpiling strategy ensuring safe and efficient production and versatility when reclaiming.
- Provide technical, geological, hydrogeology and geotechnical support to mining operations and process plant.
- Understand and report on all geological changes, highlight the impacts on mine plan.
- Ensure the efficient planning and coordination of all geological activities to meet operational targets.
- Management and overseeing of all Grade Control and Resource Definition Drilling.
- Management and overseeing Mineral Resource and Grade Control models ensuring they are optimally estimated, according to required international codes and within budget.
- Management and tracking of ore block depletion to minimize ore loss and dilution by ensuring that the blocks are optimally designed, correct mark ups are in place and tracking them in FMS.
- Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly Reporting with full mine to mill reconciliations with a focus on continuous improvement and optimization of Lumwana resource.
- Contractor management (drilling, mining, employment) ensuring consistent delivering of services in line with safety and quality.
- Ensuring compliance of resource estimates with international professional standards and government regulations for public disclosures by working with the wider geology team.
- Collaborate with Exploration in the identification and conversion of new resource opportunities into reserves.
- Training and mentoring of MRM team members with active approach to continuous improvement
- Performing geological and mineral resource/reserves reviews audit and due diligence assessments to maximize value.
- Management and tracking of MRM capital projects to ensure that budget, timelines and quality are met.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology. A master’s degree in Geology will be an added advantage.
- Minimum Ten (10) years’ relevant experience in Mineral Resource Management or Geology with at least 5 years in a managerial or Senior Technical Role
- Proven experience in large-scale open cast / open pit mining operations.
- Sound commercial acumen and understanding of cost, value, and risk drivers in open cast mining.
- A demonstrated capability and attitude to lead, share and discuss resource estimation workflows with a team as well as demonstrated seniority and comfort in resource estimation.
- Valid EIZ registration.
