Position Description:

Nevada Gold Mines is seeking an Environmental Superintendent to lead environmental programs at the Carlin Mine. Depending on the selected candidate’s experience and site needs, this role may oversee programs in water and land or air and waste. This position provides leadership and oversight for the site’s environmental compliance responsibilities and permitting needs.

The Environmental Superintendent works closely with the Environmental Manager, operational teams, and regional resources to integrate environmental requirements into mine planning and day-to-day operations. The role leads and develops environmental professionals, provides technical and regulatory guidance, supports permitting strategies, and maintains productive relationships with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.

The successful candidate will bring strong environmental leadership experience in one or more environmental disciplines, including water, land, air, waste, mine reclamation, or closure, with the ability to manage complex regulatory requirements, develop staff, and collaborate across functions.

Responsibilities:

- Champion a strong safety culture by modeling safe work practices and ensuring environmental activities are conducted in accordance with site safety standards.
- Oversee assigned environmental compliance programs, which may include water, land, air, and waste, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations and permits.
- Lead and develop environmental team members, including defining and communicating roles and responsibilities, coaching and mentoring staff, and supporting professional development.
- Collaborate with operational teams to integrate environmental considerations into mine planning and daily operations.
- Provide technical guidance to staff and support the review of plans, reports, and environmental deliverables.
- Support the development and execution of permitting strategies in coordination with the Environmental Manager and regional permitting team.
- Contribute to the development and review of environmental management plans relevant to assigned programs.
- Lead or support environmental incident response, ensuring timely action and minimizing operational risk.
- Act as a liaison with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, as needed.
- Champion continuous improvement in environmental systems and programs.
- Oversee environmental contractors as needed, ensuring work aligns with site requirements and regulatory expectations.
- Support the Environmental Manager in ensuring the team is adequately staffed and resourced.
- Assist in preparing and managing department budgets.
- Act as delegate for the Environmental Manager when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental science, environmental studies, hydrology, hydrogeology, mine engineering, ecology, or a related field - required .
- Seven (7) years or more of direct experience managing environmental compliance programs and permitting projects, with a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience - required .
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State environmental regulations and permitting processes - required .
- Familiarity with environmental compliance systems and ISO 14001 - required .
- Ability to summarize and concisely communicate complex issues - required.
- Strong computer skills - required .
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills - required .
- Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time-sensitive deadlines - required .
- Experience in mining operations - preferred.
